[SPOILERS] Woden and ljubljana like boats

Good show, 3 caravels and a privateer sunk! There might be a few more ships in the north, namely the frigates, but I can't think he would have that much up there. We will have to be careful of any Russian reinforcements but lets hope Russia is too focused on your cities to worry about Australia but we might see some of his units, especially privateers since he seems to be building a bunch of those. Too bad they fixed the bug where the path finding would show an invalid tile occupied by a privateer. At least we are close to destroyers that can see those bastards.

I think he just has the frigates and the critically injured caravel fleet left in the north. I did the math and, based on their positions last turn (before they left Anoch Sun), I think only one frigate can reach me (the one with 6 movement, assuming it’s not a glitch). I do not think they will trade that ship just to take a non-lethal potshot, but maybe I am wrong about their numbers and there are more ships up here. Kind of doubt it though as I do not think their milpower is high enough to have much more than the double line we scouted this turn.

Important warning that I forgot to include in my last turn report:

I got -10 from insufficient resources on my IC this turn, after consuming 2 coal with only 1 banked last turn. Looks like it is -10 PER coal resource you are missing...not sure when that change was made and not documented, but this strength penalty is serious business for sure and not worth risking IMO.

On the bright side, it looks like I am going to limp across the finish line at Industrialization in 6t or so, at which point I will have 3 coal to give you at Fort Lakton. Not sure if you are already planning on that, but hopefully it opens your options up a little...

edit: btw, if another rules discussion pops up in the lurker thread, it will probably be about whether Russia re-pillaging the improvements they repaired at the Free Cities of Hieratic and Abjad (the Alphabetic League?) constitutes CS pillage-farming...

You are getting extra dinged for not having coal or the tech to reveal it. I know if you have a coal source of your own, it is only -1 CS per resource because I have seen it on Russian ironclads. Regardless, once I upgrade battleships I am going to drop Press Gangs for the extra coal card. If my calculations are right, I will probably still be short a coal or 2 right off the bat but I am bound to lose a few ships in the coming battle to help out.

Turn already made it my way but won't be able to play for about 5 or 6 hours. Might start it up to take a look between now and then, is there anything in particular you would like me to look at? Probably get a quick shot of both fronts.

Okay, if Russia is only losing 1CS per missing coal then yeah, that must be what it is. That is some weird behavior there...

If you're able to load up the save, I'd say first priority is to check if you're getting the +5 from alliance renewal and whether you got my alliance request, and if you're able to send me one if not. Quick shots of both fronts, especially with Australia's fleet location if you can find it easily, would also be lovely of course smile

Turn 184-Vikings start

I open the save and grabbed a few screenshot. Here is up by you...

Not sure where is main forces is located now that we lost vision around Runic. My best guess is he plugged the gap expecting an attack any turn now or he moved forward looking for an advanced force.

Over by Australia...

A new privateer showed up in the north (odd he would have it in a location we can see), otherwise his main navy is still located where it was last turn. I think we attack this turn. I can hit any ship on the front line, do you have a preference. Would it be better to go for a kill or damage 2 ships? I think damage 2 ships and then you can kill with frigates.

Finally, I think Russia is setting another trap...

The GA is out of place here. Why give me visibility on him so I can teleport him back to a city 3 or 4 turns of travel away. Also, he moved up a pack of privateers and killed the fleet ironclad I had guarding the harbor at Freya. I am sure he could have done that a few turns ago when the caravel showed up. This looks like a set up. Distract with the pack of privateers and give an easy target, then have another pack of ships behind the GA to kill whatever comes out to get rid of the GA. I think this confirms my working theory that he is using Twilight of Valor to mass produce privateers and is now using them to find lone ships to kill and pillage our shores. Pretty smart move on his part. What wasn't a smart move was pushing his northern navy so far west that I decided to retreat my navy back towards Loki and can set up a pretty good defense. If he didn't push so far west, my ships would be to far away to do anything about this and I would lose at least my frigate and both harbors at Thor and Loki.

Edit: And I forgot to mention the most critical. I didn't have the +5 CS for a military alliance at the opening but do have a deal for one from you and do get it when I accept!

Edit2: The great person is for a General.

How far north does the Australian line extend, do you think? Ideally, we would want you to hit ships in such a way that I can incorporate your ICs into my frigate shielding once I move the frigates up. If there are Russian ships in the west I will be in big trouble if I attack, but I think I have to go for it anyways, we have pretty much a full first strike this turn and I doubt we will get another such opportunity.

Torn on going for the new privateer in the north. I think probably I should let it live, I think it is bait and the two frigates are behind it and will kill my low-health fleet if I leave it there.

So that is why Russia's milpower is spiking - they built a fleet of privateers and are going to kill all your TRs and coastal improvements with those! Pretty good plan imo. I don't know what you can do to stop them from getting the TRs in particular, besides reallocate your navy away from the planned attack...

Low-End Theory at 71 CS! Does that mean they have an IC fleet somewhere and I am about to walk into a trap? Or did they just move a caravel fleet into the city?

Probably not. It is probably a fleet caravel (65) with +6 from level 3 walls.

I don't know how far it goes north. I can hit the middle 2 in what we can see, then you can form a ZOC front with some of your caravels around your frigates between the small island in the middle of your pack and their mainland. Or I can hit the top 2 and you can hit from the north and we can hope to kill enough so they can swing around us.
