Civ 6 Release and Update Discussion Thread

+1 movement  base;  +1 movement from the UU general and another +1 from a regular GG?

That's sounds ridiculously OP for any kind of MP.

Tbf Firaxis's philosophy has been SP fun > MP balance pretty much throughout Civ6's life cycle

yeah I completely have given up at civ6 MP at this point. I realized now that this is not the right game or even franchise for me anymore.

I for one never got the flak and negativity that CIV VI MP receives. Wouldn´t it be RB philosophy to take a game and variant it so it becomes more fun?

There are a tons of good stuff hidden under the unbalanced mess that they regulary reintroduce.

And a fun MP game in there.

Can't speak for everyone, but as my performance in PBEM1 showed one cannot play Civ6 MP without gaining solid understanding through SP, and Civ6 SP didn't hold my attention for more than 3 games

Just played a game with Gran Colombia at immortal diffculty, broke little sweat and got domination victory at turn 122.

I need to make a correction regarding CG stacking: Comandate Generals bonuses don't stack each other, but they do stack with normal GG, therefore +10 strength and +2 movement (+3 actually with Gran Colombia power) at max for any unit.
And I can confirm that Comandate General bonus do apply for units of any era including warriors and archers. This makes Gran Colombian normal archer actually better then Nubian Pitati Archer.

The patch notes for the base game, including all of the abilities and features of the new civs and wonders, was posted over at CivFanatics:

Sending units to their death since 2017.

Don't do what I did: PBEM 3 - Arabia , PBEM 6 - Australia This worked well enough: PBEM 10 - Aztecs Gamus Interruptus: PBEM 14 - Indonesia
Gathering Storm Meanderings: PBEM 15 - Gorgo You Say Pítati, I Say Potato: PBEM 17 - Nubia The Last of the Summer Wine: PBEM 18 - Eleanor/England
Rhymin' Simon: PBEM 20 - Indonesia (Team w/ China)

It's hard to evaluate the extra movement without playing Colombia I think. But on the surface, you get the first free GG on T60 and little other bonus before then. It's a bit like just having a powerful early UU where you telegraph to your neighbours that you have to attack them or your civ pick is useless. And if that's the case wouldn't you rather have something like Rome for the early culture snowball on top? In a duel they sound nuts but I'm not sure I'd jump straight to OP in a FFA.

The UU is actually crazy too, probably on average +12S over a cavalry. But if you wait until then to attack, that's a long time to be playing a vanilla civ.

From the experience I had firsthand, you can trust me that +2 movement is not really okay.smile

And who comes up with this:

Bermuda Triangle. Naval units that pass through it receive a movement bonus and get teleported to another ocean tile.

I sort of agree there's in theory a fun MP game in there somewhere, but there are a few blatant issues that I think are seriously hampering RB-style games.

1) PBEM only

2) Lack of a proper world builder, making balanced maps difficult to impossible

3) Extremely poor balance combined with #2 means it's very possible or even common to start a game where from T0, you have virtually no chance to win. In games that last months, why invest your time into something like that?

4) Extremely shallow combat system, which I think to many others including myself is the most exciting part of playing against humans

These things add up to thin the player pool out a ton. I definitely might play another at some point, but I don't think it's as simple as people aren't willing to explore variants. I think there are fundamental issues that make games harder to pull off. I think #1 is by far the biggest. If simultaneous turns Pitboss was an option, I'd sign up for a game tomorrow.

Also, variant play just works better for succession games than MP games. I think Civ6 is better equipped for that than the uber-competitive MP games we regularly see here.
