[PB65 Mjmd] Off to Sea Once More

No new turn, but went in to check on stuff.

Cornflakes bombarded and then decided to take a 70% shot with his mace and LOST!!! I had half expected reinforcements, but surprising not even one or two more. So I'm feeling pretty good about holding. I'm assuming all remaining maces win after collateral, but there is a good chance of trading well after that and I have a lot of random stuff there.

He did have his other chariot to take out my axe over west. I CAN* whip a chariot and have another chariot incoming to cover over there, but I did tell Pin to just declare war and take it (I asked for city of Risk). He can have the worker /shrug.

BTW I realized on turn 141 when I launched 2nd GA that I made a possible game saving mistake. I had meant to convert civics including into serfdom (as last I knew Cornflakes was attacking Pin and not me). However, I forgot... Means I also just produced three units with no vassalage, but still having whipping is good.

Lets see what Pin does popcorn

Pin did nothing. I decided not to take the risk of losing Outside Track. I whipped chariot there, so have two defenders. Sometimes when you win a 30% you decide to not let your opponent attempt the same. Not for worker vs losing a city.

Using SaCs no open borders peace safe culture I spied on some of Cornflakes border cities. While his power is impressive he is keeping 5 unit garrisons even against SaC vs my 0 unit garrisons. He also has a large garrison force near SD (that chariot lived). I actually started shifting some cats SW just in case. With him having engineering I think it would be foolish to go after Monitor. It just takes too many turns for my units to move through his territory.

Changed into vassalage and monarchy (not that I have unit garrisons).

Well time to throw the game to Cornflakes! Was my city that "checks notes" steals 0 tiles from you worth losing the game over Pin? I mean maybe I would have stolen his plains river tile after a million turns. As a reminder Pin recently also returned fish for fish, so is Pin just being SD? lol

I offered Pump Shanty to Cornflakes for peace. Hopefully he realizes I just want to go to war with Pin. BTW the fact he had a 3rd chariot and won both 50% battles to raze Outside Track is just duh  .

I've never made this one a city, but I was feeling it. Had a different song here but auto play reminded me.

I was hoping Cornflakes would take the deal as I wanted to keep Grey Funnel Line for producing units, but honestly I should have abandoned last turn. While Pin moved most of his catapults up, most of his hitters disappeared, so he can't get to James Craig before me (ie I wasn't punished). I was also sicker yesterday and I do not remember doing movement math (I think I may also have been counting on Engineering being a 2 turns). I'm curious if Cornflakes was able to get two movers and workers in place to attack east next popcorn .

So you might ask why not equally fight Pin and Cornflakes? Its a fair question. Other than it being a hard futile struggle its mainly because Pin a stupid mutinous dog. Now I think he purposefully isn't moving in, he wants me to fight Cornflakes (and I'm pretty sure Cornflakes is just there as a pinning force). I WAS GOING TO PIN!!!! You know when I got knights and could actually do something about the horrible vision situation I have with Cornflakes. With knights I could either A) directly go after Monitor or B) If I thought he had too much / if Pin wanted to divide SaC. Then in the mess that is lightly cultured lands if Cornflakes tried to move out could at least get a first strike. And if Cornflakes didn't move out then the 3 allies would divide SaC. I am assuming SD stayed true but with how many units both and Cornflakes had starring at each other I'm pretty sure there isn't a lot of trust there.

I'm not going to lie I'm pretty sure Pin was like 80% to win this game if the alliance stayed together. I'm pretty sure we could have at least brought Cornflakes low. I was always bound to take the worst of any Cornflakes war (again why I wanted on my time frame). I obviously was always going to be vulnerable to a backstab while fighting Cornflakes. My best bet for winning was to obviously wound Cornflakes and hope he didn't take it too bad and then ally with him against Pin once I thought he was wounded enough. Iffy which is why I don't think my chance was very high, but it was the best chance I had.

BTW Great Library only had 2 turns left on it so I let it finish because? Honestly its a mistake but I did cancel Parthenon.

Did Pin break a fish for fish and our all game alliance for a cow and a clam? Maybe that is the answer.........

I was going to show graphs but I lost Pins. Its possible Pin thought I was in 2nd. If that was the case mind you, the correct thing to do is stay out. Although honestly again, with HOW FAR AHEAD Cornflakes is I wouldn't choose that answer. I'm trying to think of a game with a clear runaway where the 2nd and 3rd place person just turned on each other. I mean I know PB62, but listen I've been letting Pins border cities chill this entire damn game. Other than PB62 can anyone think of another game? I can think of ones where one of the top players sat out to hopefully let the top two weaken each other, ACTIVELY INTERFERE??!?!?. And it is very possible I would have been in 2nd at end of my GA, but I was very much still catching up and wasn't there yet.

Edit: I realized I sent my peace offers to Cornflakes in the wrong order this turn, but what can you do. I basically offered him either border city, him going to war with in, and just peace. I should have started with the war with Pin offer so he got the idea.

There was a city that symbolized an alliance. That symbolized a willingness to coexist. That is now a pile of rubble hammer

It was somewhat costly as I had to delete the victorious units, but I was able to use some obsoleting axes. Also had to delete 2 workers, but I have those to burn.

Cornflakes isn't getting the hint and is overestimating my rage. I mean there is a lot or rage at Pins betrayal, but I'm not letting you walk 3 units into my core to raze cities amount of rage. However, if you gave me peace I would be in Pins territory, but as long as it looks like you want to hit my core I can't do that!!!! Also, I 'm not sure if he forgot I'm Zulu but over the past two turns I've killed off 5/6 chariots for free.

I lost 3 cats attacking and then had to delete victorious elephant and 3 axes as well as the 2 workers. It wasn't the biggest city to raze, but still worth it. I'll have a couple swords next time to break the top longbow instead of having to use an elephant. Just as a note to Ginger on the power of creative, keeping that 1st ring tile of his was clutch. Bowline actually popped 4th ring to help keep it (it was at 51% time of raze).

Anyways, big news is I got peace with Cornflakes! Means whipping can somewhat let up until end of GA and then knight whipping can begin! So ya Pin who was the more reliable ally?

Now that I have peace with Cornflakes I can admit to some smoke last turn. I had produced a crossbow in the east and took double hill defense promo. AND then promptly decided I did want to take the 73% shot, which I won, but those promos either could have been offensive or healing afterwards, whoops.

I'm going to be arguing about the American UB here as Charriu indicated will be looking at this game American performance, which I can look at a bit later (although I've done a crap job keeping track of great people).

While I was at my excel computer I wanted to throw down my spreadsheet of buildings and compare the American UB to others GP related UB buildings. The basic comparison is it ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS every other UB with a GP focus. Mainly because its free very early in the game.

The Arabic and Egyptian are ok because they give you early access to great prophet potential without a wonder. I honestly have always liked the Roman UB more than most people, because it provides extra GP points, but it requires you be producing +8 GP points to get the same effect as the American UB in ONE city. Plus you get to manipulate the type.

I mean I know the comparison to French and Russian is thrown off a little because the specialist produce other stuff, but the next similar effect is Russia at UNIVERSITIES. Which the lateness of the building is why the rating is "bad".

My suggestion is to move it to +1 OR move it somewhere later in the tech tree. Courthouse is the obvious thematic one although I know a lot of UBs are there.

Right now I can't imagine choosing any other civ if I have a fishing start (or easy techs) other than America. I just haven't had such a start since the change. I'm actually surprised Pin chose this game, but he got bailed out by the map in other ways.
