Catwalk, just wanted to let you know I will be offline for the next week to ten days. My mother has passed away, and I will be travelling with little/no web access. Not sure I will have much time anyway, between all the arrangements and paperwork that will need to be handled.
Good luck with the game, and I will check back in once things return to something resembling normality. Whenever that is.

Sorry about your loss, I hope you will be okay. Needless to say, you don't have any commitments here although I have greatly appreciated your company And thanks for the heads up.

I am back home with internet access again, after the very nicely done (although quite sad and tearful) services. I lost count of how many relatives and family friends greeted me with "the last time I saw you, you were just a baby!" Um, thanks. That might explain why I don't recognize most of you.
Still a lot of catching up to do for missed work, but I should be able to comment if there happened to be an update or two. *hint hint*
The comments in the catnip cottage thread seem to imply there is some strife brewing. Or maybe already happening?

I used to hate family gatherings, I have a huge family (45 cousins) and there seemed to be gatherings all the time when I was a kid. I do appreciate them a lot today though, and we all know each other quite well. Btw I actually sing at funerals for a living while studying, so I'm at 4-5 funerals a week typically.
I wanted you to be able to ease back in easily when you returned, so I laid low on the updates No, I've just been lazy. School has been a bit stressful lately. I'll make a proper update tomorrow, not much has happened with the empire but there has been a fair bit of diplomacy. Most of it concerns Ceil and Ad Hoc teaming up against Cull. They want me in on it, but I really have no military and I have a NAP with him until t47. I keep fearing that I'm falling behind in the development race, I'm right now getting my third settler ready and that's going to shoot my research budget to pieces.

Wow, 4-5 funerals a week? That would be very tough for me, funerals are very emotional occasions even if you have no relationship to the deceased.
Update when you have time, school is certainly much more important. As is family. Us lurkers and ded-lurkers can wait. Impatiently, maybe, but we can.
Honoring your NAP is certainly important, but I would be careful about being left on the outside of the alliance. If they should be successful against Cull, then they could start looking for the next target. But maybe they will not be successful.

I have good relations with both Ad Hoc and Ceil, and long NAPs with both. Currently negotiating a long NAP with Pegasus as well. Would it be in my best interests to have all 4 of us be at peace until t120 or so?

Ceil and Ad Hoc aired the possibility of a dog pile on Cull previously. I wasn't opposed on moral grounds, but I wasn't sure what was in it for me. With Ceil seeking to extort Cull for personal gain, I'm wondering what to do. I'm inclined to stay neutral, still don't see how I can benefit from pillaging Cull. Cull seems bent on fighting, if Ceil ends up fighting him alone that's likely to put them both behind. Cull will likely go down over it, but Ceil is unlikely to be able to cover his losses. I may even try to buddy up with Cull a little, while making sure to not make any false promises. I also need to find out what Ad Hoc's take is on it. Pegasus was fishing for my stance earlier.

I sent Cull a message assuring him that I would not break our existing NAP, and said that I'd be happy to discuss the situation further if I can count on his discretion.

Sounds like a lot going on with the diplo. If you feel you can keep solid positive relations all around, without getting involved in the fighting (however much there ends up being), then that should be very positive for you. You can keep developing while others expend production and damage their economies with warring.
You might want to start thinking about doing something about the "really have no military" part, just to avoid anyone getting any ideas. But if you are secure with your NAPs that can be a longer-term project and not an urgent buildup.

Sorry, the proper update will have to wait a little bit longer. School getting on my case lately. Third settler done, will go settle the spot to the east. Will make an effort to establish long NAPs with all, trying to get a deal with Pegasus saying we can both break a t120 NAP with 10t cooldown at any time. That way I will be able to take action if he starts running away.
