Yeah but pop cap is size 3 with whip unhappiness.
It will get a third improved tile soon though (grassland cottage).
Maybe I'll put a few turns into something to let it grow to size 3, then start a worker or a settler.

Sounds good, I did it.
One of our extra axes is defending a worker who's roading the horses city in advance, the other is heading north to check out the jungle for ivory and kill any barbarian he meets.
Game pace has slowed down, just when I have a week off
Could be war, but more likely just players being busy.
Barbarian troubles is another possibility.

AT's scout found his way to our eastern border. He asked for OB, but I don't see any reason to accept so I declined.

2metraninja found us! Or we found him, not sure if he can actually see our borders.
It's a good thing I didn't go with a Star Wars planet naming theme..
A promoted barbarian
RIP AT's scouts from earlier.

2M to the west. AT to the east. Somebody must be north beyond the jungle.

For sure. That's why I'm planning land grabs next. If there's ivory or something else really good in the jungle, we grab that spot next. If not, then we grab the eastern spot with incense.

Okay, thank you.

Lands in two parts so you see better
If you look closely in the north, there's a corn under jungle (edited in, I'm sure of it) and more horses. If we were just after horses, we might have went for that spot instead, but we need the furs badly so still settling south.
Demographics. We are doing great! Population and food have been toned down intentionally because of our really low happiness cap, but once we get furs and hereditary rule we can start growing these babies. With this much food we have potential for big cities.
All three cities will be ready to be whipped after their current build finishes!

Looking back at how I've played this start so far, the one thing I'm most unsure about is the tech path. We need happiness, yes, but I'm worried that we'll be getting Alphabet too late. Losing both our original scout and the one we built wasn't bad play, that was just bad luck, but it's something that might bite us in the ass later on. More specifically not meeting others soon enough and not having enough map information. I need to build some chariots to scout with, to remedy the situation.
