C&D: Nothing out of the ordinary then. If they get AH we need to get a few spears to stop immortals.
In general. They are definitely close. The contested area does not seem rich enough to support immediate settlement though. We should post a scouting unit there to keep an eye on things.

A shame that we do not have a newbor to numid rush. I don't think that OH will be that careless. Especially not with your reputation Maybe in the other directions. Judging from the proximity I would guess that we should be close to two or three others. East, south and maybe west.

Another immediate response might be to build an extra warrior or two.

Yellow hill between silver and deers seems to be very good for territory control. If we fail to plant it our front will be that flat filler city I have planted at #2. So imho we must try to contest that spot.
Unfortunately our settler is comming in smth like 5-6 turns and their team has already planted 4th city and whipped something this turn. It is most likely another settler. Anyway I am going to make axe in #2, it doesnt look like they can make immortal soon. And probably we can deny them planting this location. I agree that our neighborhood doesnt favor to rush. Contrary we must stay in aware and not get rushed by immortals. Immortals and axes are strong combination you cant deal against effectively considering that number of forests. OH is spending EPs somewhere so they have at least one more neighbor. I believe we also have one more close neighbor, probably to the south along the coast. Damn poor scout... We can go for numids as defensive measure and switch on the other weaker player once we establish front with OH.
The hill would make for a much better border city. However, I'm not sure we need to rush it asap because of them having other neighbors and us too. They might not be sending a settler that way at all and we could be losing better spots against other players by going in that direction. The question is if they are closer than the other neighbors or if it just that we both happened to plant in the same direction.
About the other neighbors: What happened to DS? I saw he was eliminated on the tracker but not how it happened. WilliamP: Tokugawa of Japan is so much better in the mod. I do not know how WilliamP plays though. Against and AGG/PRO player we want to catch him off guard either with a tech disadvantage or by surprise to stop his extra promotions from making it a slog. Nothing we can plan for this early. DZ: Pacal of Maya. Did our neighbors not get the memo about unrestricted leaders? Pacal is a very strong leader for economy with extra commerce and cheap markets/grocers/harbors. They have no military bonus to speak of so the correct choice might be to attack them before they run away in tech. DZ has not fared that well in the games I have seen so he could be our best target for numids. What do you know about our neighbors play styles? Are there any weaknesses to exploit?

I didnt track either. After I saw DS was eliminated I checked that he had 2nd city which he had lost 3-4 turns before losing his cap. I think it was holkan rush, unlikely char rush, because maya doesnt have proper techs for it.
About personalities I never met WilliamLP before, so I cant say anything. With DZ I played several games. He didnt show himself well in long run however as I can see he can be very aggressive and even little bit desperate. OH is good and pragmatic player. Also he has an active set of players as team. This means that he will unlikely make some stupid mistake like not seeing simple threat of numids at any stage of the game. But OTOH I dont expect any kind of uncommon play from him. May be this is wrong impression. So far OH seems to be closest neighbor. Of course we both have other neigbors probably some of them at conparable distance. But right now I see setting up a comfortable front with him as main goal may be worth delaying better spots for some time. However I dont think this will lead to mutual aggression. Having nice front cities usually demotivates people from attacking and allows you to spend less hammers on defensive measures. |
