I think your life is more exciting on any given month than mine has been in a decade. You should publish your memoirs, or at least start a blog.
Also, try challenging him to a game of riddles; works every time

I thought of myself as a pretty independent and self-sufficient person, but these months of living alone and working remotely have left me feeling pretty drained.
Objectively I have things better than many, with financial and physical security, and I do try to keep my routines and enjoy the small victories, but there are rough patches where I wish I had more support or healthy outlets for negative thoughts, but I don't know what that would look like, realistically.
I wish the dogs were still around and that I had done things differently with a close friend and former potential housemate. It's hard to appreciate the things that matter in your life until they're gone, and you might not realize that it's the last time you'll get to spend time with someone until long after the opportunity passes.
That's sad to hear, but at least be assured that you are not alone with those problems. My wife also had similar problems, missing her friends and the kids around 24/7. We do love our kids, but you know how it is, sometimes they can get on your nerves. But my wife started watching TV with her brother during quarantine in a somewhat funny way. They both connect via Whatsapp, Zoom etc. and start streaming their movie at the same time.
This might be very unpopular, but for me as an introvert shut-in the pandemic turned out great. I never imagined that I would love working remotely as much as I do and I do appreciate not having to interact with many people on a daily basis. But I know that I'm the exception here, especially because I'm financially and physically secure as well as living in a country that's dealing quite well with Covid.
Also the fact that development of RtR and CtH continued in such a fast pace in the past month is mainly due to me being stuck at home. The best advice I can give is to find yourself an activity that takes up a lot of time and you can do from home.

While this works sometimes, unfortunately it isn't always enough. I used to be fine with not going out, not interacting with many people etc, but by being forced into social interactions (as part of being a teacher), now I feel like something's missing when I'm alone at home all day.

Well my girlfriend lives in Europe and I haven't seen her since February and because our leaders suck ass it probably won't be until next year. That's sucked.

Most colleges are finalizing their plans for the fall semester, and I've got to say, I am not pleased with the way things are panning out - personally and objectively.
My uni has been tabulating the decisions of most US colleges in regards the coronavirus situation and the fall semester.
The first two options, staying totally online and totally in-person are self-explanatory (although, it absolutely escapes me how the full in-person experience is viable in these times). The all-online option has been adopted almost exclusively by California colleges.
The next two take a bit more explanation. Most colleges plan on having students return, with classes larger than x amount of students online, and smaller ones taking place in larger lecture halls instead so as to follow social distancing. The number of students for the cutoff varies heavily by institution (anywhere from 20 to 150), as does the availability of classes online. Many state schools plan to offer all courses online regardless of class size, with smaller classes having the option of holding in-person seminars as well. Students would still have to return to their dorms in most cases. The strange part of this option is that many colleges have decided to make the semester fully online after Thanksgiving, at which point everyone returns home to take final exams.
I find this to be complete nonsense. Keeping students in dorms, where they are at high risk of getting infected (dorms are not too dissimilar from nursing homes), while having them take classes online is just stupid. And then what, send everyone back for thanksgiving, get their families infected, and have them take exams right then and there?
If they are worried about safety in classrooms, then why bring students back to dorms, where they are far more likely to get infected?
If they are worried about money, re-opening dorms at 1/2 or 3/4 capacity is not profitable whatsoever. It seems to me like many colleges are drinking their own "student life" kool-aid. Total delusion.
Personally, I have no clue what to do. Living with my 70-year old grandma and 92-year old great-grandma and commuting to college every day is just too risky. I'll have the ability to take rail instead of bus/metro, but that is little consolation. Getting a car isn't a great option either, parking is expensive and I am not an experienced enough driver. The classes I am going to be taking are almost surely going to be in person (small graduate classes). Just a bad situation overall, but by the end of this week, I will know the university's final decision and just how bad this situation ends up being.

I'm indeed in the US, in fact in Florida the fastest growing covid-19 state, and in fact in South Florida the fastest growing part of Florida. Trump closed borders with Europe a while back and for whatever reason didn't re-open. The EU followed suit when we started spiking and for clear reasons haven't re-opened.

No harm in checking. Many universities that are holding in-person classes are still giving students the option of taking courses online. And unless your courses require clinical or bench work, it's possible the instructors can accommodate you ad hoc.
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.
