I think so, but there was a sudden stop in interest on the SP side here that never picked up.
I think except for some quirks CIV VI is a great game.
But then again I also played CIV V in MP and liked it.

Wish I didn't burn out on 4X games around Civ6 release, I have over 800 hours in Civ5, mostly SP, and think it gets more than a fair share of criticism (even if a lot of that criticism is deserved). Think I could've easily spent at least as much in Civ6. But lost interest after something like 3 games, and it still hasn't come back

Civ VI has a very interesting set of concepts that mesh together relatively well and despite there being optimal plays for each victory condition there's enough to explore to keep it interesting. Some of the new features in NFP are equally interesting (and just as unbalanced) but do provide for some good entertainment.
As far as the adventures & epics here I think it was (is) the ineptitude of the AI that did those in.

Quote:Hammurabi leads Babylon
Leader Ability: Ninu Ilu Sirum - When each specialty district type except the Government Plaza is constructed for the first time, receive the lowest Production cost building that can currently be constructed in that district. Receive an Envoy when any other district is constructed for the first time.
Civilization Ability: Enuma Anu Enlil - Eurekas provide all the Science per technologies. -50% Science per turn.
Civilization Unit: Sabum Kibittum - Ancient era melee unit. +17 Combat Strength against Heavy and Light Cavalry promotion class units. This unit has 3 Movement and sight.
Civilization Infrastructure: Palgum - Replaces Water Mill. +1 Housing and +2 Production. Freshwater tiles receive +1 Food. City must be adjacent to River.
That Civ ability only looks completely broken.

The analysis on CivFanatics is that there are some eureka beelines to get cavalry or muskets in the classical age with a bit of work/finesse. Two limits appear to be that you can't research past a tech for which you don't have all the prereqs and that many of the late game eurekas can only be obtained by spies or great scientists. However, building the Great Library is essentially free techs and the GS that give eurekas just got better.
As far as purchasing NFP perhaps wait and see if it's part of the Steam Winter Sale.

I really liked vanillla Civ 6. I just wish more energy had gone into refining it rather than bloating it and piling on more unbalanced mechanics in the expansions.

Has anyone made a mod to improve the ai? I couldn't be bothered to play sp because of how shoddy it is.

That's really the only thing that kept me from playing CivVI

Sometimes you just want to sit down and play out a game though, and PBEM, while fun, isn't exactly great for that.
