[SPOILERS] Woden and ljubljana like boats

Yeah, I think they are working on Hieratic for the damn coal - note siege and the city walls down significantly from last turn. Balls. I am so stupid frown At least it tells us something about their fleet location.

I will move my caravels into the fog to the east this turn to help screen for first strikes. Were you waiting for the southern IC to catch up before moving out, or will that take too long? I would have for your BS to get hit with only 3 IC in front of them...

If your IC ends its turn next to Illmatic, I can take out the health on my turn, which we do want to get done before they hit ICs. I could also have the Dreadnought either ht the chariot or Rodeo depending on your preference. Not sure we should advance past the cape until your ICs catch up, though.

My ironclads will make it a little passed where my front ships are located and I am going to give them priority in movement. I don't think I can wait for them to lead around Runic but will not move the front as far as they can go to allow the ironclads to catchup over the next 2 turns. I think I will have my lead ships attack Runic next turn while the back ships catchup. I don't want to hit the open ocean in NE of Cuneiform without the ironclads leading the charge.

As for the coal, I can bring my field cannon up by Cuneiform and pillage it as my ships move by. The field cannon can help kill whatever is protecting it and protect your northern flack for you P&Ss. If he captures Buyniy next turn, he would get 3 more coal but I should be able to pillage it the turn after and get Combined Arms a little closer.

Having your caravels protect my NW flank would be a good use of them and then maybe my NE flank once I get around Runic.

You can but I don't want to take the city until Russia completes his next tech. No need giving him extra science from the Campus. Agree not to advance beyond the cape until my other ironclads catch up. The will be off the tip of the small island this turn and should be able to making to the point the following turn.

Agreed about mostly waiting for IC. Are your BS going to get pushed over the threshold to promotion just from making a city attack? It is only worth 3 base XP, so not sure it will be enough unless they are pretty close. Since we can't attack williams until the southern IC group catches up anyways, perhaps it is better to just keep all your BS back this turn just in case williams is hiding IC in the north...especially because we have no scout screen in the area now.

As for the coal, that sounds good. Just as long as your FC doesn't get swarmed by Cossacks or something like that, which should be avoidable with the help of the river at Cuneiform. We do need to be a bit wary of a new Cossack push at the campuses from the east, though - I don't like the look of those 3 Cossacks, and there are at least 2 more behind them in the fog as indicated by the siege on Hieratic. Your BS may also be able to take out whatever unit williams leaves on the coal by themselves, though the FC would definitely help out. Idk, up to you what to prioritize with the FC.

As for Illmatic, yeah, I just don't have too many productive things for my ships to do this turn since I don't want to blindly charge past the cape. With your IC protecting them from roland's fleet caravel, I can position two frigates 2t from the city, which will be enough to safely take the health out, after which I can do other things and mostly ignore the city for a bit. The Dreadnought can also hit Rodeo, or it can displace a ship from 2t away from the city to try to kill the chariot (I think it is a likely one-shot but not guaranteed). The second option does mean I probably won't get the city health down all the way though (which requires 2 fleet attacks). That could be a bit annoying if I have to fight off privateers or something next turn and then the city gets an IC fleet to boost its DS. Personally I am leaning towards the Rodeo potshot but can be swayed either way.

I can plug the city with my ironclad. No harm in shooting at the city and Rodeo as we wait for my ironclads. Not like we can take the city without my ironclad actually attacking it.

As for Runic, I have a few battleships with some experience and I think I am getting 4 per shot. I can probably hit it twice per unit (from west side and then east side as I move pass) and should get a few promoted.  For the field cannon, he shouldn't be able to see it on his turn and then next turn, anything that comes at it could be hit by battleships. He should be able to handle a few strikes from Cossacks and does already have a promotion that I can use to heal. I am not too worried about losing him.

Finally, I sent you 19 niter. I don't know if you have any quads in production but I am near my capacity and would lose some next turn. Let me know if you can take more or if it would screw up anything in production.

I do have some quads in production, but I can take your 19 niter as I am pillaged so badly into the ground that I am not making any myself lol I could take more too if you want, but would have to use some to hard-build frigates - not a terrible idea maybe, but probably saving it for you to make frigates and upgrade them is better.

Well, if you can pull it off, getting some LoB battleships would make a big difference. But it depends on how sure you are that nothing is in range. I agree that it is probably fine, but not sure I would bet the game on it. It would be quite clever for them to feint at Hieratic with the frigates while having their melee ships hang back in case we slip up tactically... And the IC still have 8 movement for them, so they would not need to be too far back to hit you...

edit: I guess you only need 4 IC to block an attack from east of Runic, which would make me feel a bit less nervous (if you have that many in range). I think it is not too likely that they are hiding ships way off in the NW (though it would be a game-winning move if they did do that!). But an attack from the east seems pretty plausible and could really hurt if there is no shielding in place.

Turn 189-Vikings cont.
Here is how I ended up near Linear B...

If you put your caravels near the crabs, you can protect me the best you can. I don't think he held ships over hear, for one, I didn't see anything with my privateer last turn and I moved him a little north before teleporting the GA to Runic. I brought all my ironclads up as far as I can get them and should be able to get some to the frontline next turn. I killed the fleet caravel with a few battleships that had some experience and 1 gained a promotion. I will do the same at Runic next turn and see if I can get a few more promotions. My speed to the Russian fleet is going to be determined by the GA, who only moves 7 but all my boat move at least 8, 9 when starting in range of the GA. Next turn, I can fill the area between Runic and Cuneiform and then sail towards Buyniy the following turn. If my estimates are correct, he will upgrade the following turn and I can strike. Another reason I doubt he left his melee ships to attack in the north, he has to know I have ships over by Wodin and it would be a hell of a gamble to leave his frigates ungaurded. I did move one of them up towards Asahi and didn't see anything. I might consider moving them up China's coast to see if I can spot anything next turn.

Over by Australia, I moved the ironclad up to Illmatic and pillaged the mine, shaving off a turn of Combined Arms, now down to 5 turns. I think that is the last science I can get unless we can dislodge Russia's Cossack off the iron mine (might be a use of your frigates)....

I also repaired the coal mine and put one of my berserkers in the water. Not sure if I am going to have this guy pillage near Illmatic or go for one of the cities on the northern island. Science pillages might be done for now but I see 6 culture pillages I can shoot for in the coming turns, the horses at Illmatic, 2 pastures at the city directly north of the horn, and 3 at one of Japan's cities that I am currently removing the walls. This can speed up Mobilization or Conservation, whatever I decide to research next.

Hmm, I am noticing that I can use my coal-less IC fleet in Linear B to dislodge the Great Musician at Runic - I wonder if that's worth doing? It would take a big hit from Runic's defenses and could get obliterated by any passing Russian ship (at just 60 combat strength)...buuut it would be really nice to keep you from being trivially scouted next turn...

It would be sent back to Asahi and be out of scouting duty for a few turns. Probably worth it. If it does get hit by the city, you are only a few turns from Industrialization and being able to heal. If there is a Russian boat up there, it might be nice to know about it and we can kill it on my turn.
