I...um...this was a LOT of longbows.
I'm concerned by the lack of build-up on the civac side. I'm trying to break these two tough hill cities before the big conquest force comes in. Been happy about my spears still being helpful, and now that I have a Medic III on the stack time is on our side, sucked up six catapults with zero losses and traded two horse archers for two war elephants, I'm happy.

Sorry dudes, played and then had to take the toddler for his wellness check. The Antaboga front was a nice check: Nice. So lost a couple longbows and horse archers, but shortly: Are longbows overpowered? No. But Dun longbows are surprisingly nice attackers, and having a ton of +50 hill defense longbows means I don't think what he has thus far... ...is anything like a worry. LONGBOW ATTAC!

I can't say how happy I am to see somebody succeeding with this combo. I tried this with Dun and Crossbowman in PB52, but I was way too late for that and faced knights.

I have lost a fair few longbows, as Gaels and horse archers are in the second wave, mainly. Longbows > crossbows for this, Charriu. Anyways, this modest little war had two aims; Antaboga as the lynchpin on the front was the most important, true, but I also really want strategic depth in the south, where the prize is not just a decent little fishing village, but also access to a fourth island for furs and trade (castles won’t be a long time coming, either). The catapult put an awesome hurting on the defenders here, particularly that sword. My own scratch force was no great shakes, but should be able to get something going. I got very very lucky. Horse archer withdrew, then the G3 Gael won his battle against the axe. After that, it was pretty simple, really: ...but wait, there’s more. My horse to the west didn’t have to go in. Is that a massive metropolis, size ten, guarded only by a single archer? Why yes, so it is. BURN. Baseline objectives: Complete. Took the two strategic daggers out, burned the mature city in between that would stop either capture from being secure, and no civac is invading Gavagai’s north with Praetorians and catapults. Hrm. Sure would be nice to kill those siege-cracking war elephants, but desert roads take 3 worker-turns, not 2, and I only have two workers here. ...wait, nope, I got it. All of my whips for the next five turns are finished (hint: it’s all catapults), so let’s revolt into cheaper civics. And behold, the Great Prophet bulb that landed us a potential AP isn’t going to matter for four more turns as the capital works on making a couple more spears first anyway. So let’s change civics and kill elephants. I’m aggressive to a fault, I think I’m going to pay out about even hammers for killing those war elephants. That’s...a lot of units, just arriving fresh* from the AT front. If Gavagai feels like doing an end-run he can burn something with this, but G2 on hills behind a dun is...everywhere. I think he might be wise to sue for peace at this point, but who knows who he hates worse between civac and us. This is the Main Army of Egypt: *freshness not a given.

Civac is devouring Gavagai, so after a few mutually insulting gold-for-peace offers...
White peace. And Jowy with knights, ostensibly. No idea if he's made a single one yet, though.

So next step is renaming Antaboga to Agincourt?
