[spoilers] Commodore gets medieval

Impressive job with Phi/Imp there.

Thanks! All things considered, was happy with the recovery. Came quite close to real relevancy too, but couldn't quite get there. Haven't read much of anything in here yet, but it's on the TODO. Maybe after I get my 77 screenshot tongue. However.

Funny you mention that. I just commented on that today how it reminded me of a very special moment in RB history.

I have a distinct memory of seeing this at -30-something, but this is the "best" screenshot I could find.

Oh yeah, I'm up (down) to -82 now. It's causing graphical issues in the charts.

So I wondered if you knew the barbarian flip mechanics or not, because I got mega-screwed by nature of turn order + sequential.

Looks like no. So, basically you get a single unpromoted defender for free when you flip like this. It's an Archer, and I believe at some point later in the game it's a better unit, don't remember. But the issue is the flip happens on the barbarians turn. Given that I play last, that meant the turn order went me -> barbarians -> you.

So, I had no hope of holding the city even though I got units into the area because no matter what I did, the city was going to flip after I played but before you played. Had I been earlier in the turn order, the flip would have processed after you, and then I would have been given an opportunity to defend it. I didn't know all this until after I fired off the Artist, unfortunately. (Also the inability to know what turn the flip would happen on made it really awkward to plan around.)

Ok, looks like I didn't understand the archer given, which is why I was confused; I figured it was actually empty. Been a decade+ since I've flipped a barb city.

Sometimes, an opponent has a turn and you just have to applaud.

Never seen Hanging Gardens AND Liberalism the same turn, eh?

If Pindicator isn't completely checked out, this is actually good for me, means it's a clear 2v1 needed.

(Pindicator is completely checked out).

Nothing to do but to whip everything. Have enough financial resources to be able to do that now until the end of the game. All this crop yield needs to be turned into mega-stacks of knights. Economy is hopeless forever.

...but hey, this is a really nice city I captured.

How close did you come to striking? It looks like you pillaged tiles for the express purpose of getting cash?

The pillaging was defensive, Thoth was already pillaging that poor town. Striking is an aesthetic choice in a 19-city empire with Wealth building options, but I went down to 2 gold at my worst, and that's with my 32hpt main producer outside of the capital building wealth for three turns. A random assortment of banks and courthouses see me now *only* at -17gpt with my revolt into Slavery/Feudalism/Theocracy again.

A note for the next Medieval Pitboss: While it might be true that no techs are strictly needed after Guilds/Astronomy, neglecting your economy to such an extent that you are losing 100 GOLD PER TURN AT FULL TAX...miiiiight not be the right call.

Long time, no update. Gist, Pindicator has given up, so Thoth wins.
