[SPOILERS] Bobchillingworth Presents: The Six Million Dollar Golem

Bobchillingworth Wrote:Yet I cannot rebase my hawk in his town. What's up with that?
Don't quote me on this and it's not documented anywhere to verify, but I'm convinced hawks have some sort of rebase range. I had the same when subbing for WK in ffhIII, some cities were just too far.

Heh, this thread showed me that I was an even worse dedlurker than I thought. I didn't catch more than half of Kuros bad moves, and severly underestimated the chances of a rush before it happened. GG, Bob. I think I'll stick to gobal lurking now, at then I'm not actively messing up someones game lol. Oh and sorry about the slow turns, I suppose. If I'd bothered to re-install vanilla FFH I could've offered to play some of the turns for Kuro. I doubt that I'd have done better, but by the end that didn't really matter *shrug*. Good luck with your game, I like your writing style smile

Quote:Thoth has this wrapped up; he's way ahead in tech, in pop, in every meaningful demographic. But I'm having fun regardless.

Go get Nox Noctis. He's Grigori, so can't get it. Massive equalizer defensively.

*twitch*

Massive doesn't do it nearly enough justice.

Did you already fly a recon mission this turn, before trying to rebase? Did you hawk that city recently to make sure it's still there? Are there any HN or hostile units in the city?

I am fairly sure thats not the case in SP games I map out the whole world by just using neutral cities to scout from. Never had any range issues

I would have thought he has a HN unit in the city - a bear or spider or something.

In SP you can mouse around in the unexplored areas of the map and the cursor will change is you mouse over a valid destination, hence try mousing round where you think another city is, and you may be able to move there

Bobchillingworth Wrote:It helps that we have a fantastic map- well-balanced (at least, from what I can see!) and the land is interesting. My only compliant would be that it's almost too good- there's a lot of really nice city sites which will almost certainly never get settled. But has its own advantages too, like keeping the world vibrant, with the constant barbarian presence. Plus two of the players bit the dust early, so perhaps we'd have filled it up better if nobody got rushed.

I'm glad you liked the map, bob! smile

I've considered it, especially since the Ardula Chambers only give the lame kind of invisibility that everyone can see. Problem is that I seriously doubt I'll have a Great Merchant or Prophet any time soon (I've kept 50 gold in the bank hoping for the prophet event since like turn 12 now, but no luck yet). I've already generated two great people, and my best GP city is automatically producing engineer points. Right now the tech plan is for Elementalism -> Sorcery (get blasting workshops up before I build too many more golems), and then it's on to the Empyrean for drafting Radiant Guard. My current planned anti-Thoth defenses are fireball Gargoyles backed by rust adepts and blinding light. I don't have plans to attack either of the remaining players any time soon. Golems are simply too slow to make it work.

I *should* get sanitation, since most of my cities are under the happy cap, but I don't have enough Mud Golems to have all of them able to work improved tiles in time with their growth.

Thanks guys, these worked; the city in question indeed had a HN unit in it (elephant), but I was able to rebase using a city in the fog. Got sight over much of the Malakim territory; they have nice cities (and several Altar parts finished), but a shockingly small standing army (although the Rev can use his WS to get a bunch of Ritualists). Hopefully the Rev can hold out if Thoth decides to attack him.

I don't know what you've posted in his thread, but unless you were actually behind all of his moves, you shouldn't feel at all guilty or responsible for the sad fate of the clowns smile It's not the job of a dedicated lurker to fix all of the actual turn player's errors. It should be obvious, but you also bear no responsibility for Kuro playing slow turns, and you don't need to apologize for anything.

Anyway, thanks for the compliment & let me know if you want any advice regarding my perception of what went right and what didn't with Kuro's game. I've probably already posted some of it scattered throughout this thread, but I could combine my thoughts into a final summary, probably with slightly less profanity =)
