I agree with Magno. The capital can just settled here. I cannot see some overpowering reasons not to do it.
Could we take a demo screenshot too so I can do some readings too?
What is our password btw? (we got a password, right? )

Settled in place.
Gold ahoy! Not in our capital's radius unfortunately, though we would have had to lose the Deer and the river to grab it anyway. Oh well, we can get it with one of our early cities.
Also looking like there could be a nice spot somewhere to the east with the riverside Cow.
Interesting that the coast we're bordering appears to be a 10 tile lake - the minimum possible size while allowing naval builds without going to 2 food tiles. Wonder if Plako was trying to trick us... I certainly believed we were connected to the ocean before we settled.
Where to next with the Scout? Perhaps 1NW followed by 1SW/1NW depending on what we see?
Our capital name can be changed if anyone has any better suggestions. We could do female names for our other cities as suggested earlier, but maybe the capital should be unique?

Weird, and a troll lake! Ironically it's not crazy to guess that we may be on a west coast. My gut is torn on the scout. West is more efficient since he's already along the way but it kind of feels like the better land is to the east. And the capital border pop will reveal a lot. I defer to any decision. If we're on a west coast, the scout could scout around starting NW and circling around the coast S and then to the SE?
Gold is good, but why did it have to be desert hill gold?

My dumb and mostly wrong back of the envelop analysis:
A circle of radius 8.5 has an area about 227. Radius 7.5 is area about 177. So an estimate of our "fair" land is a reaching about 8 tiles from the capital orthogonally, and maybe 6 tiles diagonally. Lots of factors make this wrong; islands, and also starting on the coast means the fair land (based only on land tiles) stretches farther than a circle. Still, this analysis would suggest our closest neighbour "should" be about 16-17 tiles away by radius, or 12-17 by tile moves.
I think a 16-ish tile distance between nearest neighbours is reasonably standard for a balance between peaceful expansion and warfare, so I'd be surprised if we deviate too much from that. (I'm betting 14-18, or at the outside 12-20.)
Not sure if the suggestion you've outlined would be balanceable on a toroidal map... you have to be very careful about the number of connections between civs and the average distance those connections span. But it's possible we could have something like that - I was mainly using the simple 5x2 layout to get a rough idea of what the map dimensions could be.

Maybe once you've explored more of the map... right now we can't zoom out enough to tell anything other than that it's more than 38 tiles wide, which we knew already. Seems like a bit of a cheat though, so I'm not sure I'd want to use it to determine the exact map size before we've centred the world map (assuming it works).

I'm not sure how many people are actually involved, or if it's just one person writing for all the sock puppet accounts. Either way, it's confusing.

Not sure. Apparently we need more images of naked women or something?

PM'd you and Magno with the password. Please be careful not to change or move anything while you're looking around.

What is it that indicates to you that we might be on a west coast? I don't think we really have any basis for that assumption at this point.

We can only see 2 tiles west of our capital, so can't really draw any conclusions yet about where the best land is located. I think it's worth exploring a little west - we'll probably want to do a circuit of our starting location anyway to start making plans for our second city location, so may as well head roughly anticlockwise since we're orientated in that direction already.

Well, Gold usually sits on desert hills for balance if there are also Gems and Silver in the game. I presume whoever else has Gold also has it on a desert hill. It's still an excellent tile, providing you have enough food to work it.

Women? I think you should just use the name of the other players and make a lot of double entendres like:
'Yossarrian is working the corn this turn'
'DMOC is experiencing whip unhappiness'
'We're going to need to shove an axe inside Caledorn to keep it from getting unhappy this turn'
and of course: 'Dick76 will grow to be size 2 next turn'
etc.

I think I'm seeing mirages in the tile bleed that look like coast to the W where there is none. Don't mind me.

Nah. I think we should to women. I suggest calling our Capitol for Hillary (Clinton)

Maybe go with Thatcher because Hilly wasn't ever a head of state?
