Yeah GJ, abandoning the city whilst kills me internally, it probably the right thing to do and ensures that there is as little further loss as possible. No point wasting rifles to defend against grens/inf with no defensive modifiers.

If I had really gone for it, I could have stacked in there 4 rifles, one cg2 one cg1 and the combat 1/pinch rifle upgraded to an inf. But I would have left the galleon in the city to do that. That would have faced that str 16 inf with at least 1 upgrade 2 I think, 2 grens with upgrades, the 2 rifles with upgrades that damaged inf and whatever he has on the galleon. (Just a cats left in Panama)

So I would be down an upgrade gold.

I assumed his high str inf loose to mine. I probably win/loose 1 each of the gren fights. Win loose 1 each of the rifle fights. Then I just have likely heavily damaged units to take the other rifle, and full health 3 units in the galleon. Would really have been touch and go. With most of his units there having access to 2 promos probably about a 60/40ish for him to take should he choose to do that, if he does then Douglas has no easy ability to reenforce... If he marches on Douglas then that is problematic also!

However my defensive plan would have prevented him being able to unload in that stack without a pair of rifles on that juicy 75% def bonus, and the ability to strike after airship support should he move on to Douglas with cavalry being able to be shipped over to hit also.

Just saw he razed. I made it rather unappealing. To get the most out of it I built wealth, and ran 3 merchants for 12.25 gold and 9 science plus the base tile commerce so it starved down a size.

A 10 turn treaty could be nice to fire a GA and get something out of DZs likely demise (0 whips) but I still have left a rather sour taste, and the motivation to play for Delong everything out has been killed here a bit.

I'll give it the BH weekend out to see if I can get back into it, and thanks for the tea and empathy.

Well I got the peace. Threw a GA. electricity in 4. However I forgot to revolt or hook up coal for the shale plants I'm building. Mistakes are flying in thick and fast now. Plonked units in range of Drey4E but I don't really wanna ignite a world war flare if I'm not fully invested. I would imagine this would cause scooter to jump in too.

Is mack spoiled? He might take over the civ and still be able to take it to a win here.

A bit of bright news: shale plants don't need coal. smile

Now I tested this over a week ago and I found although they would build and the 10% was active without coal, they didn't provide power until coal was hooked IIRC. Otherwise this would be a tacit +2 health as well as +10% hammers.

Ok I don't know what I tested, but you are quite right actually. I don't need access to coal. That means that I can really keep the unhealthy down to nothing currently as without needing to connect coal for the power plants I avoid the health malus of the coal plant (so only +4 unhealth for power, without the additional +2 unhealth for it from coal) and also the +2 unhealth from a factory with coal connected. This would be amazing, if I didn't actually pretty much have the capacity to absorb all that unhealth in every city with the free harbours and aquaducts. I have no city that is neither fresh water nor coastal, but the cap and the 2 larger cities of Gordon and Percy will benefit from this so it is still good. Also saves me some worker turns sorting this out too.

Actually I have very limited need for coal at all this game due to this. I am currently without steel so no IW on the horizon, and was planning to skip this on the fast tracked marine approach. Only will need for IW, oil can be substitued for railroads in the short interim period.

The thing I need to think about is whether a civic switch for 5 turns is worthwhile. Would be easier if I had done it last turn. 5 turns of beuro for money could be powerful. It would be worth 25 commerce and about 50ish hammers. The hammers are so so if I go military as I will be pretty much able to 1t infantry anyway. So it comes down to how many troops I plan to build in the next 5t. THis depends on whether I will war with anyone soon. A load of wealth builds (which I assume scooter is doing with his massive sudden GNP surge) Could speed me onto marines before the GA. But this might be the best time to attack Drey4E when/if they take the northern DZ city.
