POLEs are involved, or you can be in POLE position in the race.
There's some sort of ROBOT demolition derby somewhere that I can't recall.
A PISTOL might signal the start of a derby.

Derby - horse race, so that probably gets us CIRCLE and POLE. Maybe PISTOL for the starting gun?
Horses are typically measured in HANDs. Second order connection but still plausible.

Looks like we're in broad agreement on CIRCLE/PISTOL/POLE, so probably guess those? I'm not sure I like ROBOT, I'm pretty sure things like Battlebots weren't called derbys. If you include demolition derbys you can't rule out OIL or PASTE, for leaks and things smashed, respectively.

A Derby is also a type of hat, but I don't see any good matches for that.

I guess Animatronic is at least somewhat related to Animation, so Hand and Paste spring to mind. Also, the -tronic ending could perhaps clue Robot?

We should guess a fourth word for the win if we get these three. I still lean Scientist.

I suppose Oil for the third word, for some vague robotics connection. Nothing else is immediately apparent.


Unsure what the last Fiber word should be... Scientist isn't particularly direct. Paste makes sense to me if there's some connection between fibers and glue, but that may be entirely in my imagination. Perhaps it is Scientist though, as that seemed to be the second-most likely option the team was leaning toward, and Commodore isn't steering us away, with his three word clue

Robot is a certainty, I'd say.

Initially I was looking at Hand, but I guess a robotic hand is more bionic than animatronic.

Oil is definitely needed for that sort of mechanical thing.

Actually, I quite like Unicorn. It's the sort of creature people might make an animatronic version of. Bugs and Loch Ness monsters maybe too, though they feel a bit weaker.

My preferences are Robot, Unicorn, Oil. And keep Scientist from before, probably third.
