GeneralKilCavalry and thestick talk it out

Have provisional micro, still needs work. The main improvement is skipping the grassland mine in Lodi to free up Worker labor to chop 1W of Toulon. The roads will also allow us to shave a turn off of settling the Corn city, now scheduled for T48. We will also be able to immediately start farming the Corn on settling, so this city will be dynamite once we chop/whip out a Granary.

Still needs some revision. Toulon is feeling a worker improvement crunch ~T48, after Lodi steals its Mine and Corn City steals its Crabs. Also, I need to work out the mechanics of delaying the T44 Axe one turn so that it chops into a Worker or something. Desperately need to squeeze out another Worker.

Questions:
-If we road 1SW of Toulon, how many movement points does it take to move from that tile to Toulon? 2?
-Currently the plan has a Spear in Toulon coming out T44, and an Axe in Lodi T45. Do you feel this is sufficient military for the moment? I have too much overflow going into military, and was wondering how much I should scale this back by.
-Worker 3 and City 3 names?

1SE of Toulon is indeed a 2 turn move. That is why I was considering not roading that tile - not much of a savings there anyways.
That should be more or less sufficient. But we shouldn't be skimping on military.

Worker 3, let's go with Murat, and City 3 Arcole.

T37 Pre-Report

AH came in, and we will have horses second ring at Corn city/Arcole. There's also a source to the east.

Gavagai's scout wandered out of the fog to the north. He has two cities. Set EPs to him.

Posted Lodi Micro V3. Main change is that instead of chopping out a second Axe, we chop out a Worker (Murat) which completes T47 instead of T50. Also we get our first Cottage, 1E of Toulon T50, and the second, 2N1E of Toulon, T53.

Just realized that we get 11 hpt +3 bonus + 1 food = 15 foodhamers per turn into Workers at Lodi at Size 3. We can just sit here cranking out Workers/Axes/Missionaries until the Classical era.

Buddhism or Hinduism? You're better at the RB meta, so your call.

T40: Stonehenge was built in a faraway land. Judging from Raskol's 24 point score jump, it was probably him.

Also thinking that after we scout the last bit near Arcole, we send the Scout north. Need to see what juicy Calendar resources are upriver before we decide Calendar or Monarchy. And half-think we should get a couple more Axes before settling 4th city, since we won't be able to chop the first-ring Jungles for a little while, and can't immediately set up a killing zone.

EDIT: Still toying with Writing -> Academy, but it's probably a bit too early for that. Need to remind myself that Arcole needs to develop first, or 4th city needs to grow enough that it can steal Toulon's cottages.

Interesting that Raskol got stonehenge but not religion.

Edit:

So, I decided poly will be the best option here.
1. If we beat Rask or potentially Cairo? to it, we'll deny them of religion.
2. It opens a second religion in case we f*** up.
3. We'll need org rel anyhow.

All-in-all, pretty clear choice imho.

Have we opened up talks with Gavagai?

Random thoughts.

Medium-Term (T50-70)
Military
-I am becoming irrationally paranoid that Cairo will move a scouting Chariot 2N of Lodi, realize that we have Axes and don't have the pop to dry-whip a Spear, and ruin our day. Unlikely, but the major hole in our defenses at the moment. Will have to keep an eye on the Power graph, and probably pop borders to give ourselves advanced warning.
-Note to self to mix in spears out of Lodi to protect against opportunistic moves from scouting Chariots.

Scouting
-We should probably squeeze out a Work Boat from Lodi sometime in this period to scout out the southern islands. Maybe there are more resources there?

Diplomacy
-After reading Charriu's PB43 philosophy of preventing each player from having a full set of resources to encourage diplomacy, it hit me that Commodore might have done something similar here, especially on a full diplo game. It would explain all the Sheep and Crabs we have. We should start sounding out Cairo and SD if they want Sheep or Crabs post-Sailing, and when we get a spare Ivory with Red city, Ivory too.
--Corollary: if they don't have Ivory, jumbos.

Wonders
-Oracle? Gut says no, but still toying with it out of curiosity. MC -> Mids probably won't work against Philosophical Gavagai, if I'm understanding the meta correctly that Philosophical->Forge Engineer->Mids is too fast to beat on the GP generation. Plus the thing is a Settler/Worker pair without Marble. What would we take besides MC, though?
--Then again, assuming we get a religion, Prophet points are all right. Though we could always bite the bullet and use Temples.

Long-Term (General)
-Looks like we're on the edges of a circle with few natural chokepoints. Borders look to be long and hard to defend. We'll probably need HAs for the mobility and opportunistic possibilities.
-Not quite sure how the prospects of offensive action will look, especially once the central of the disk (jungles?) is settled. Before that, you all know the drill, ally with one neighbor and attack the other way.
-We'll have 5 first-ring cities, and it looks like we'll be able to fit in another ring of 10 (?) cities before we bump up against SD/Cairo. Not sure what that means in RB-terms. We'll run out of space around... Civil Service? Opportunistic Mace/Cat/leftover Praet strikes, followed by a Knight conquest? We're definitely going somewhere with Mercantilism, unless there's a whole 'nother continent.
-Did you pick a Napoleon naming theme in hopes that there will be a series of grand coalitions against us that we will beat? Because that sounds oddly fitting.
