[SPOILERS] Lewger goes for the Bigwyn

(April 27th, 2013, 05:53)Oxyphenbutazone Wrote: What are your legendary cities going to be?

gilgamesh and the odyssey are the two obvious ones. the iliad has culture from the shrine but won't have the hammers to build cathedrals.

so I'm thinking King arthur for #3. it will end up with almost as much hammers as maths, but maths has the heroic epic and a settled GG so really needs to be used for pumping out military. king arthur will be the laggard and get any great artist bombs we do, most likely. also all 3 cities will be far away from the front lines if serdoa, commodore, or plako try to stop us.

as the turn rolled, romance3kingdoms picked up christianity, which I was hoping for (we didn't have a source of that, now we're only missing Islam which hasn't been founded yet).

here's the bad news though:

so that says 5 turns. but in 3 turns we start are golden age, and im hopeful we can shave a turn off due to that. so a 4 turn headstart. assuming commodore builds taj in his capital, it will hqve roughly the4 same hammer output - but we'll get a 50% bonus for IND, and a significant bonus for being in a golden age (I'd say thats roughly worth another 50%). I think we should give it a run. worst case, we'll get a few turns in for fail gold. also, in 2 turns, if it looks like i can take muse in time to get the gold to push through, I can start a monastery in gilgamesh, which will just barely take 2 turns and allow me o overflow into the taj.

Need anything from me?

well, if you want to take over the turn playing soon (well, by the time brick's weird gaming table game starts) that would be dandy. having fun but its a time drain. maybe in 5-6 turns, we should have the mainland secured then and you can be in charge of naval operations to finish off Azza.

oh! so the muse built a cat when the turn rolled. that means it has for defense: a cat and a warrior smile. so obviously im pyshing on with uninjured units: a mace, a crossbow, and probably a couple of other injured units.

stack beta had 2 pikes, 2 maces, and 2 cats. the pikes are heading towards the exodus, border with serdoa, just inc ase. next turn it will have 3 pikes and a couple of spears. rest of the stack is heading towards presets, which has only a cat and several archers, to dig in and start bombarding the walls there. once the mainstack has healed up ill send cats and maces to join it and raze the city. once we have nationalism I'll pop a settler out of king arthur to replace it. the nice thing is once I plant the replacement city, we'll have a canal from the northern sea (around the aeneid) to the southern sea (paradise lost\the new city) which will be extremely convenient.

azza just played his turn, so Im going to get to it shortly. But I noticed this a few hours ago and have to post it:

I'd say with 99% certainty that now serdoa has all Brick's mainland cities, he's turned to Xenu. not surprising at all. hopefully he'll put up more of a fight than brick did.

we're in a bit of a race - we have to finish off azza and get prepared for a war (hot or cold remains to be seen) w/ serdoa. lucky once we are in caste our production willl shoot up. we'll need a crapload of pikes in mahabrata and the exodus (living end). we'll also have access to knights ourselves in about 8 turns.

yes. but it doesnt matter. I don't fucking know why unless he just loves us, but he didn't take nationalism with his free tech.

im not letting the foot off the gas w/ the wealth builds, because I don't know who else is close to researching it. I guess commodore must have taken astronomy, then. we get visibility on his research next turn so we'll see.

also this

he cashed in his great merchant. I'd like to know why the hell Scooter let him do a trade mission into his land :/. I guess he didn't want to declare war to kill it. It could only be scooter or serdoa (he just popped the guy 2 turns ago) but I'm thinking scooter.

still playing the turn, more later.

yes. he finished his turn.

here's another odd thing.

xenu whipped 8 cities (he only has 10) in one turn, so i was sure serdoa declared on him. but nope, xenu is still at peace. Hopefully xenu has plans to take some of brick's former cities off Serdoa smile.

well there are some islands between him and slowcheetah only reachable w/ astronomy. or he may try to beat us to azza's islands frown. hopefully with a 16 turn golden age we can get close to astronomy, not sure. that is our unique unit after all smile.

edit: maybe he is gearing up to invade scooters island with muskets and knights. Scooter doesnt have feudalism or guilds, like us. he does however have optics and can research astronomy, which I imagine he will before too long.

about to play the turn, so I need to post pics from last turn (got sleepy last night)

azza took a gamble w/ the navy and won, mostly. really his only victory in the current war so Im ok with it. he had 4 triemes attacking, I had 3 triemes (1 was C1) and 2 galleys defending. he lost against the C1 trieme, then won 2 32% battles in a row! yuck. then he killed a galley. both galleys were empty of troops, so no biggie.

I took the 66% chance to kill an injured trieme, and won. the galley is a 0.7% and he'll likely kill it. unfortunately the trieme was at 0.1 health, so only had 4% chances - I retreated it to el cid. it does have another promo coming, so if he goes after the galley ill have the option of promoting and killing that trieme.

we're going to have to start our navy from scratch, pretty much - but don't panic! previously we could pretty much only build navy in Poem of El cid. very soon, with the canal from north to south, we'll be able to build navy in all 3 of azza's conquered cities, the aeneid, and even song of roland (all good hammer cities). as well as the odyssey if needed. also we have 3 galleys up north that can go through, a trieme in the east returning now that merohoc is dead, and a trieme from volsung that will make its away around the peninsula to el cid in another 10 turns,
