[PB63 Spoilers] Fabled, Amicalola, and JR4 are woven into the pattern

Assorted Comments:

- I think being behind on food is a mixture of prioritizing granaries early (in every game I've played recently my food has been terrible T50, and strong T75), but also the unfortunate case of being forced(?) to whip that spear in Tar Valon. With decent micro and peace time, we should be able to keep up with the field from here. smile

- Now that Sailing is finished, it is probably worth building a galley for the island pretty soon. The ICTR are worth having.

- That's a shame about the capital whip, although you're right that it's easy to lose track in a PB. I find the best way to keep track is pretty liberal use of signs, as you may have noticed. wink It means my screenshots in the early-mid game can look pretty disgusting, but it does really help with things like whip/tile swap timings.
-> Good thinking about how to roll with punches though. I agree that a 1-whip would be a bad idea, and waiting for the next civilian is better. An alternative to a settler in Caemlyn could be a 2-whip Worker -> Galley? It's easy to forget to build enough workers at this point (I know I always forget, at least shakehead ) and we need lots of those too, at least one per city ideally.

- I also like the idea of starting a settler to whip in Cairhien at Size4. Perhaps that could be the one that gets on the galley?

- Cairo's location (and existence) is really unfortunate. He and Cornflakes are probably the two worst neighbours here, so that's tough luck. I guess Superdeath would have been worse. lol Anyway, we need to give ground to him, because Creative makes border skirmishes super unfair for us. Probably trying to get the plains hill Horse/Deer/Lake city, and the wet rice city, are a start. If we're lucky we can grab the Lake Crabs, but I wouldn't expect that. Creative is a really good trait for exactly these kinds of situations, sadly.

- Agree with both of you about the religion. One thing to try could be saving gold until we have enough for Myst and Polytheism in one burst. That way if someone grabs one (or both) religions, we can reconsider. Not a huge deal though, I suspect we'll want Myst regardless.

- How are you finding your first 'real' Pitboss so far? Thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of turn-a-day play?

Yes, it`s probably better to hold off the whip for now. In the mod that I`m used to playing (RTR), there is a penalty for multipop whips but not in this one, I believe.

The decision on where to send our next Settlers is quite important as the borders will be determined in the not-so-distant future. I`m a little bit worried that Mr. Cairo wants way more than his fair share of the land NE of Caemlyn. Can we afford settling an offshore city before locking down the border? I totally get the point of trade routes which will help our economy big time. If we decide to go for the plains hill S of Horses and then sending our next Settler to the island, we should send up a few units to dissuade any land grab from Mr. Cairo.

Binary research is a good way of keeping flexible. Also, we don`t really want to give any known tech bonus to the others. I like the idea of saving gold for a few turns, until we have enough to actually make a play for a religion.

Turn 60

I think we're all on the same page with tech path and city placement. I think I'm not doing the best with worker micro, I've chosen to send #4 south of Tar Valon to chop away the forest tile because the war chariot spooked me. That worker should probably be heading up towards the horses city to get that online quickly, but the worker whipped out of Caemlyn will have to do. I need to sit down and plan my moves at the start of the turn instead of figuring it out one step at a time. banghead

Next settler is on the way. We'll fix the border first and get trade routes second.

It's harder to keep up that I would like, I fear I'm annoying all the RB veterans. I'm still enjoying it, though, and I'm super invested!

Just a heads up, I'll need a sub for a week or two in late March. My wife is due with our first, so I'll be offline and not thinking about civ at all for a bit. I don't know what exactly to expect so I can't give hard dates for when I leave or can start taking turns again. Can someone here take that, or should I start recruiting a sub in the main thread?

Cornflakes is coming for us. I've spotted two war chariots heading north, and the enforced peace ends next turn. I'll have a spear and an axe in both Tar Valon and Cairhien. I have 70 or so gold saved up for a religion, I might spend it to turn a warrior into a spearman. City #4 goes up next turn. I'm setting up spearman whips in both Tar Valon and Cairhien. Caemlyn whipped a worker into a galley as discussed, and I think I have enough power for that to be OK.

A couple of War Chariots isn`t really enough to break our defenses. Spears on hills are hard to break down by a two-mover attack. Having at least a hammer invested into another Spear in both Cairhien and Tar Valon sounds like a good idea. Maybe we could show Cornflakes a Spear with a blue glow on it, just to show him that we`re armed and prepared for any random attack? I`d be more worried about a determined Sword rush.

I might be able to play for a couple of weeks in March. Amicalola is surely occupied with PB 59 if it hasn`t finished by then.

Yeah, a spear should be enough to deal with 2 war chariots most of the time, in a direct attack. It can get more complicated with forking, but a couple spears should be enough to stop anything other than a committed attack. It would be a good idea to have the whips as an option though, by putting <5 hammers into spears in border cities, exactly as JR4 said. That way if Cornflakes does seriously attack, we can react a turn sooner.

I can sub if PB59 is over, but like JR4 says I'm not sure I can commit if it is still going. That game is still sucking up a lot of time. Congrats on the baby, though! smile

Not sure what this implies but it looks harmless so I accepted the deal.

It's probably just a sign that Ginger wants to stay on friendly terms with us. We do have an extra Gold that will be connected some day and Ginger almost certainly has an equivalent Silver.

I'm not sure how to check, but I'll take a look when I log in tonight.

Just check the religion advisor and look if the Hinduism or Judaism was founded.
