[SPOILERS] Athlete and Lewwyn are SHAKA OF THE VIKINGS

Athlete - I've really enjoyed your thread so far and appreciated the work you've put into it... But to be completely honest - I think you overreacted a bit. Mackoti is not a native speaker at all, and his wording can be confusing sometimes. Given I lived two years in a foreign country, I've been around a lot of people who are not native speakers. One of the things that is common for non-native speakers is often things come across a little too blunt, because using the little words that we use to "soften" the meaning of things is often something that's hard to do in a non-native language.

So instead of "can you explain your thought process on building that library?" and using a follow-up post to explain why there might have been better options available, his post said "the library is a waste" which is probably too blunt.

I guess my point is that he's a non-native speaker, so I'm almost positive he wasn't intending to be so blunt/harsh. Try to cut him a little bit of slack, he's a nice guy smile.

Hi Mackoti,

This is my apology for my outburst against you earlier. I simply overreacted...call your post the straw that broke my back if you will...simply have a lot going on is all. Regardless whether you called my thread a waste of time or were aiming at something else I don't know but it doesn't excuse my response...I should know better.

Sorry dude!

wow, i didn''t want to say that, my english must be very bad , i wanted to say its a pitty you dont have a library up an running yet, as the libraries are very high on my priorities list after granaries.
I realy enjoy your reports and i wanted to help with that and make you build some libraries...,well good intention bad wording...

Mackoti - your English is generally good, but on this occasion it was ambigious, i.e. it could have been taken one of two ways.

For reference, I think it would have better worded as: "I lurk your thread and i see at this stage of game 375 bc and you still don't have a library. I think that this is a bit of a waste because of your strong commerce."

K T101 played...

Charlottetown just completed an axe and will start a Library.
Fredricton just completed a chariot and will start a Library.
Halifax will 2-pop whip a Library on T102.
Montreal will 3-pop whip a Forge on T102.
Niagara Falls just completed a Forge and has started an Axe as another Barb Axe has appeared. Otherwise I would have put in a Library here.
Ottawa has completed a Granary and will start a Library.

I've moved some units around to start fog busting and what not.

Alright, so time once again for a little overview. The disappointing news is The Reverend was able to raze that barb city which really sucked. I would have preferred myself or Nakor...but what can you do. I believe there's a pic of the barb city a page or 2 back if you want it.

T102 - Overview of my Island:

As you can see I'll have the Iron mined on T103 and hooked up on T104. Now a look at my 2 cities on the island. The 2 workers on the mine will board a galley on T105 and head N/NE to my back island and road/pre-chop everything in preparation for a city.

T102 - Charlottetown:

I've started The Collossus here. It's total build time should be no more than 6 turns (1T invested already). I think after I land The Collossus, I shall build a Settler, Library and then Settler. I might even interrupt the Collossus build to get a Settler out. Actually check that, I won't.

T102 - Halifax:

I've just whipped the library to completion with as much overflow as I could muster without working sub-optimal configurations in previous turns. That will overflow onto Moai Statues next turn. It just regrew to size 6 at EOT so I will switch to the Iron on T103 rather than the plains/hill/mine and at size 7 I'll interrupt Moai for a Settler. My first GP will be an Engineer due on EOT129 I believe. His goal is to lightbulb machinery.

Over to the main part of my empire:

As you can see TRD has fortified Diligence pretty strongly and yet is willing to leave a worker undefended on the border. I've done the same so the trust is there not to worker steal. I'd love to be able to but I really can't afford any war right now.

As for my stuff I've got Paul Coffey and Ray Bourque coming to fog bust. Shane Doan will land next turn and probably end up being an MP for a new city but in the mean time will fog bust. A buddhist missionary waiting for another city and workers hanging around.

T102 - Fredricton:

It currently shows 2T to growth but I will actually spend 3 worker turns on the rice next turn and will be able to grow at EOT 103. After that those 3 workers will move 1SE and chop/cottage the jungle there which will mostly be worked by Montreal. John A. MacDonald will road and then chop the forest 1N of Fredricton. He'll get help from a worker that is part of the rice/chop/cottage contingent once the forest is roaded. The chop itself will probably go into a worker.

T102 - Montreal:

I was going to 3-pop whip the forge on T102 but decided due to the lack of food I would slow build the forge. That way I continue to work the gold longer and what not. Once the forge is complete a Library is probably due up.

T102 - Ottawa:

Since the picture was taken while re-playing the turn, I actually worked the grass/cottage not the grass/hill/mine. My plan is to get up to size 4 asap and whip that Library. I desparately need the culture. Ideally I'll regain the gems 1NW (only a matter of time) and the farmed sugar 1N, 1NE. That would be a huge boon to aiding this city quickly.

The last part of my (currently) meager empire:

The main issue is the barb axeman just to the north of my borders. Otherwise everybody else is just beginning to have a poke around. I believe with the units I will have fog busting shortly this should probably be the last barb that troubles me. I had to deviate from my builder's plans and slave an axe here to make sure I was able to kill the axe (or survive an attack if it moved into my borders last turn).

Inside Niagara Falls at EOT 102:

My axe just completed and has seen fit to grant me 28 overflow. I shall be chopping the forest with the sign 1T chop on it on T103 and putting it all into a worker. After that I'm not too entirely sure. I might 3 pop whip a settler here as the barbs have caused me enough grief I haven't been able to improve it fast enough. I could then grow/build a Library and Aqueduct through chops and then begin The Hanging Gardens. It might be too late at that point but I'm not sure it would be beneficial to attempt to land it sooner.

I'm not overly displeased with where I am despite being in last place. Nakor is at 5 cities, myself at 6, TRD at 7 and Ruff/Jowy and Seven at 9. I believe I have the most built though in my cities. I am still last in power though I lack Archery (8K I think) and possibly another tech like Construction or something from the leaders so I'm not in terrible shape there. My production is starting to overtake the leaders, I'm not last in Food (barely), though my GNP is still regretfully low. If I can get Libraries online and still expand I can seriously start to pick up speed and probably get myself into a 3rd place scoreline or so. So long as TRD doesn't get too far ahead, if I can raise a quick army of Zerker's and a few boats, I think things have the potential to look pretty good for me smile

Here's what happened to that Barb Axe:

My axe has since been renamed to Rick Nash. Apart from that, not much happened this turn. Went basically as I said it would.
