Turn report coming right up.

Not a lot, since riots and anarchy is still happening everywhere. We did plant the 2nd city though:

Plains Cow and Dry Rice. Since our cities are named after poor food resources, our strategy is to confound the other teams into thinking we are weaker then we really are. twirl

Also got some neat scouting info:

Food! Ocean! Glorious!

Dunno if I'll post scouting reports for future turns, may do so anyway just because there's so little else to comment on this early.

Finally I switched research to Education, since we seem to be in agreement on that. 1st place on the scoreboard!

Absolutely! We have a post count war to win.

errr...come in second place for alright

I'm thinking NW->NW for the explorer next turn. I'll log in later and look at what our longbows revealed, but we'll probably want to start bringing the southern one around southeast and continue sending the northern one to the west.

I'm still intrigued that Scooter/Sullla did not settle on the first turn

Yeah, I'm leaning towards 1SW and 1N/1NW respectively.

We can still easily win the post count war. nod It's just the view count war where we have to concede. frown

I would have thought the explorer would want to go S-SE no? We can easily scout nearby territory with warriors once they are built, get the explorer moving around the globe pronto.

Doesn't really matter that Sculla didn't settle first turn, as they are still in anarchy. The only thing they lose by not settling is the free beaker.

Maybe you said it and I missed it, but in any case I'm sure you appreciate the +1 post count; what civics did you go with?

Definitely appreciate the post count. nod

HR
Bureaucracy
Slavery
Mercantilism
OR

Pretty standard stuff for non-SPI IMO. All the SPI civs whipped their capitals this turn (technically last turn but we haven't played this one yet) so none are in Serfdom yet.

In other C&D news mackoti hasn't settled his 2nd city yet despite being SPI, interestingly enough. scooter however did settle both of his cities this turn.

This is better.

I was briefly in: "let's defog all the land around the capital!" mode.

This turn saw us get out of anarchy (finally...) and start building workers. The plan is to whip both on T190.

Here's something interesting though, both scooter and plako whipped this turn. Assuming they both whipped workers (as that's the only thing that makes sense), that means they both went for 1t anarchy instead of 2t like we did. Guess our civic setup isn't so standard in this game...

I don't get why you wouldn't bite the bullet and switch to 5 civics instead of 3 to minimize anarchy though. I did briefly consider the idea to try and get a 1t anarchy but dismissed it before sharing the idea with Dave. From a micro standpoint I could understand, but which 2 civics do you give up? Not Bureaucracy or Slavery, both are far too good. Probably not Merc either as you'd be giving up 2 hpt from T0. That leaves HR and OR.

Maybe both Sculla and plako are planning to keep their capitals low enough in pop to not need HR happiness early? That would make sense, since both are IMP. Likewise OR can be skipped early as the only thing you miss is the ease of spreading religion early. Eat the anarchy for those 2 later when they are more likely to be useful (or hell, use the first GE for a golden age to switch. 30t seems a bit too long to be holding off for though...) Probably not too useful for us though, since we want to get a mega-bureau capital earlyish that relies on HR.

In any case, I can understand TBS's question much better now. smile Also the demogs look fantastic (since we are the only team in the game who hasn't whipped):

The 37 GNP must be building culture, a bit redundant since you can get a border pop for both cities fast enough enough anyway with palace and holy city culture. Might be necessary if there is food in 2nd ring.

It's sooooo tempting to just whip

In scouting news:

Can you think of a better spot for a Dike? popcorn IMO we should probably split that into 2 cities but plenty of time to figure that out later. The Dutch pick seems to have paid off, now we just need to get to our stuff and we should be in a great spot.

Unfortunately Sculla are pulling away in post count... I'm going to have to rely on you dave to make up for this deficit when you take over turn-playing. hammer
