Turn 101

Then the turn rolled while I looking over stuff

Wilson had the 2nd gold mine finish and so I thought 'what happens if we just work both gold tiles and use up the food in the granary box?' Turns out the answer to that is we can get Alphabet in 2 turns.

It'll still be tight, but it's there to be had.

Those aren't bad demos if you can manage to un-crater the old economy. Of course you'll still have a lot of catching up to do even then.

Planning a T100 overview?

Correction : Donovan Zoi bulbed Theology. He did it as i was loading the game which is why I didn't see his point gain (or think to refresh civ stats)

I'll compromise, here's a pretty artsy picture of our lands and a chat that shows what Pindicator and I are thinking at the moment.

And rolled. I think we're going to do it. [Alphabet incoming, whew]

Mardoc in a 42 thread: "You know, a vet who never does crash his economy? Mackoti. Who, um, seems to win a lot..."

Theology wasn't Naufragar, by the way.

Unless it's a 3pt tech?

Pindicator
Oh dang, I was just skimming civ stats

There - Donovan bulbed it as i was logging in that's why I missed his point gain

Commodore

8:23 AM (7 hours ago)
Of course it is Donovan

I feel like we underrated Hitru in our pregame analysis.

He's a full partner of Rusten, logging in about as often.

Dude is trusted to play turns by *Old Harry*.

Pindicator

9:28 AM (6 hours ago)
That's good praise

I haven't paid too much attention to all of the other players because we've been so stuck in our own path this game

But we are about to come out of this hole

Everything on Build Research until Currency, no?

Commodore

9:50 AM (5 hours ago)
We want to flip that Nau city?

9 gold to spare!

Scientists in all libraries.

Pindicator

9:51 AM (5 hours ago)
Oh yeah, let's put the culture pressure on

Commodore

9:52 AM (5 hours ago)
Need another settler ASAP then

Pindicator

9:55 AM (5 hours ago)
Nice, we passed Gav again. BGN next!

Commodore

9:56 AM (5 hours ago)
Um.

If we continue our determination to explore North we need another galley for just simple logistic support between super Dead Island, silver Island, and our main

Pindicator

9:58 AM (5 hours ago)
Yeah, maybe out of Tompkins?

Commodore

9:58 AM (5 hours ago)
Poor Tompkins

Sure

Pindicator

9:59 AM (5 hours ago)
And I would put preference on silver island over the naufrager north, but we should make sure we're not missing out on any luxuries on that island north of Silv

Commodore

10:00 AM (5 hours ago)
Well, Silver Island is past Superdead, I think two cities there first makes sense

Man is that a nice barbarian city

Pindicator

10:02 AM (5 hours ago)
Yeah, i guess I mean bigger picture strategy

Like, keep our tentacles/influence options open for expanding north later, but really push west for expansion next

And if that unexplored island turns out to have luxuries or be strategically viable then reassess

Commodore

10:06 AM (5 hours ago)
Fair.

Giving up the fish is doable.

As much awesome westland as we have.

Boy gold island is pitiful

Pindicator

10:10 AM (5 hours ago)
I don't know why, but I am expecting troll whales in that barb city down south

Commodore

10:11 AM (5 hours ago)
I'd love that.

Pindicator

10:16 AM (5 hours ago)
I should have put the capital on a galley last turn, want thinking about how many of those we are going to need

Commodore

10:18 AM (5 hours ago)
Not really that many east though.

Pindicator

10:22 AM (5 hours ago)
No, but we can shuffle stuff westward

Commodore

10:22 AM (5 hours ago)
It's a long road going N or S around the whole continent.

Healing the chariot.

If south barb city is warrior-guarded, that'll be enough to take it.

Pindicator

10:25 AM (5 hours ago)
Hopefully. But we need a galley there as well to teach it

Commodore

10:26 AM (5 hours ago)
Galley is picking up the workers from Wilson then heading south.

Pindicator

10:27 AM (5 hours ago)
Dropping them off at Johnson? Noticed that city needs some attention

Commodore

10:28 AM (5 hours ago)
Yep

It and the one south

Horse/sheep/fish

Pindicator

10:30 AM (5 hours ago)
Oh good - so our next 4 settlers are Fish Corn Horse Sheep Fish North of Kings Superdead Island

Right?

Commodore

10:31 AM (4 hours ago)
Right

Fine cities, and Eventual Great City.

I need to do a precise out compare on Commerce Zone vs. 1S

Pindicator

10:36 AM (4 hours ago)
That was what I was going to try to do last night and then the turn rolled and I got side tracked lol

Commodore

10:47 AM (4 hours ago)
Wait, North of Hamlin

North of Kings is getting "settled" by our 6 HA/GG axe/10xp chariot.

Pindicator

10:54 AM (4 hours ago)
I'm sure they will make good work of that land

Commodore

10:55 AM (4 hours ago)
Hope the crazy barbs aren't building a worker.

Pindicator

10:58 AM (4 hours ago)
So I guess we want to keep the land unfogged as much as possible, to hope we get more barb cities to spawn

I mean keep it fogged

Commodore

10:59 AM (4 hours ago)
They seem to be very active

Although with the spawning cities now stuffed with archers...

No more cheap captures.

Costs about 50h on average, might be as much as 150 with bad luck.

Pindicator

11:05 AM (4 hours ago)
So if they started with warriors they'll stay that way, they won't upgrade?

Commodore

11:08 AM (4 hours ago)
Nope

See, Silver Island barbs.

Which our 5XP axe should be able to clear up in 3t upon arrival.

Pindicator

11:12 AM (4 hours ago)
Hopefully can snag that worker over there too

Commodore

11:13 AM (4 hours ago)
Hey, it'll be done with the silver mine in time either way.

Pindicator

11:23 AM (4 hours ago)
20 cities by t130?

Maybe 125

Commodore

11:26 AM (4 hours ago)
Currently, we're at 12

16 by 110 is the current track

So the 4 after...Commerce Zone, Gold Island barb, Silver Island barb, and..?

Pindicator

11:31 AM (3 hours ago)
Maybe between Gold island and Wilson, depending on the food down south

Maybe on the yet - to - be - explored north island

Commodore

11:32 AM (3 hours ago)
I'm actually better that fish IS the food the blue circle made the barbs settle.

Looks like multiple islands.

Pindicator

11:32 AM (3 hours ago)
Honestly the only reason I don't think we have more is economy

Commodore

11:32 AM (3 hours ago)
A single-tile flat grass to the NW

Economy can screw itself.

Once we have Currency.

...and probably MC/CoL

Pindicator

11:33 AM (3 hours ago)
Then I say 25 by t130. Fill up Superdead Island and Silver Island

30t is probably too far out

Commodore

11:34 AM (3 hours ago)
North too.

I want that peninsula, even if we allow Naufragar the fish east.

Pindicator

11:38 AM (3 hours ago)
Ok, need to list all these out lol 4 cities to there right?

Commodore

11:42 AM (3 hours ago)
Three if we concede fish.

Until calendar and bananas

3 peninsula

1 or 2 Gold Island

3 Superdead Island (unless we really want the foodless gold yet, don't think so).

3 or 4 Silver Island

2 more near our capital.

2 near SD's old capital.

2 eventual south fillers (meh)

North islands a big question, depends on how jungle-choked things look.

Pindicator

11:48 AM (3 hours ago)
That brings us near 30 with just that list

Commodore

11:49 AM (3 hours ago)
I'm really mild on the south fillers.

Pindicator

11:49 AM (3 hours ago)
Well the wine will be worth getting

Commodore

11:49 AM (3 hours ago)
Shared sheep and share dry corn

Wine is great when Monarchy comes.

Before then...I don't think Gerry needs the cottage-help thanks to Tompkin's help.

Pindicator

11:53 AM (3 hours ago)
Yeah, i agree those southern spots come later

But I think we'll be at Monarchy within that time

Commodore

11:53 AM (3 hours ago)
I realize I might sound obsessive about the Fiscal Jackhammer stuff, but we're going to NEED those towns.

Late game RBmod tech is expensive, and until Rusten captures Lootbox Zoi this game can go the distance.

Pindicator

11:56 AM (3 hours ago)
Yeah, i agree with that. I think we can really gain some ground with quantity too, especially if other teams don't have this kind of land to expand into

Also, I'm afraid we'll have Rusten west of Silver island

Commodore

11:57 AM (3 hours ago)
Rusten's workboat came north

He's in contact with BGN (c-nav, so duh) and Naufragar

So he's north.

Antarctica is ours.

Pindicator

12:00 PM (3 hours ago)
Maybe we'll find a Donovan Zoi shaped present down there

Commodore

12:00 PM (3 hours ago)
I'd love that. But given Gavagai's Hinduism, that means also The Guy With the Grudge...

Ideally? It's the modestly successful Mr. Cairo.

He's doing okay but I think he's galleonable.

Back to the post-Currency debate.

Silver and gold make me think Metal Casing. Also, RBmod workshops.

Pindicator

12:15 PM (3 hours ago)
Yep, wholeheartedly agree that MC comes next

Commodore

12:17 PM (3 hours ago)
After...Math, CoL, Monarchy?

Pindicator

12:20 PM (3 hours ago)
Yeah, tentatively

I want to see how our econ looks with Currency, i might try to get us to Literature first

Also need to double check Astronomy bulb requirements

Commodore

12:22 PM (3 hours ago)
Literature is great...if we can find marble.

Pindicator

12:24 PM (3 hours ago)
Oh that's a second stone out west

I thought it was marble for some reason

Commodore

12:26 PM (3 hours ago)
Yeah. Although might be worth biting the bullet if we really do feel like this is going the long road. Makes Astronomy bulbing harder though.

Pindicator

12:31 PM (3 hours ago)
Well we can't do anything decisive until Astronomy at the earliest. Rifles/Grenz is probably a "normal speed" for any conquests we make

Commodore

12:33 PM (2 hours ago)
Endgame is going to be over 50% drydocks cities.

Pindicator

12:36 PM (2 hours ago)
I wonder how we are going to stack up to more landlocked teams. Typically will need more cities to cover the difference in land quality, but it might come to a

Or culture lol

Commodore

12:37 PM (2 hours ago)
Well, what indications do we have that anyone is landlocked?

Pindicator

12:40 PM (2 hours ago)
Just guessing the Big portion will have good amounts of landlocked land.

So if someone comes to claim most of it then they are going to be hard to get at

This is way, way, way down the line, so boulder - sized salt is needed

Commodore

12:42 PM (2 hours ago)
Snaky can actually have our land as the "Big".

Pindicator

12:46 PM (2 hours ago)
That would be amusing

Commodore

12:49 PM (2 hours ago)
It's not tiny islands, we'll have plenty of hammers.

I think for the requested update I'm going to post this discussion plus a "here be dragons" map.

Pindicator

1:12 PM (2 hours ago)
Yeah, a lot of strategy meat in this one. I think we're both on the same page as far as needing Astro and gunpowder units before we do any further conquests

Commodore

1:23 PM (2 hours ago)
Well, we have that much unsettled land on the map. And I'm sure the BGNu/Rustru teams are going to be going towards good shipping too.

Well bugger. Looks like I misplaced Rusten. Also, he's pretty close to Silver Island.
This is a big chunk of land worth fighting for. But much better to have walled cities with City Garrison skirmishers there before he moves in.

Curious, what are the city count comparisons looking like?

Rusten is in first place, with Bubble Boy here his fifteenth city. We're at twelve still, like BGN.
This turn's theme is "making the neighbors nervous". I sent a cow to Naufragar to let him know we're still buddies. But this force could probably handily evict those two cities if we wanted.
We might lose a whopping three horse archers from this, alas. The odds on the hill barbs are 36% win, 12% withdraw. So a little worse than a coinflip each time. Six two-moving units here though, so I'm not worried.

Finally found food in the northern isles, that's nice. Although currently we're still looking at "lighthouse lake" and "grass farms" for the huge Northeast Island.
