[Mjmd #56 no players] One ring to find them

I'm not sure exactly what Van reload situation is, but if you could remind him to play the turn as he did up to that point that would be appreciated.

Delayed T55 report.

Plus I need those units in the north.

Sadly I have to live with the turn split. TO NOTE HE DOESN"T KNOW THIS SO NO ONE TELL HIM!!! I will keep playing after him. He actually has been pretty on top of his turns unlike Ruff.
We are in a settling race, but I think I have a plan.

As predicted he is going for that hill. Because I was feeling cocky I improved my dry cow instead of roading...... In hindsight I blame Mig lol . Now if I was playing in 1st half of the turn I think I would be fine, but right now it looks like he will road T56, T57 finish road and move settler to hill. Settle T58 which he will beat me by 1/2 a turn AS IS. If I had roaded both I would have settled T57. I will 100% be on the lookout for a 2 pop whip T56. It is possible he won't two pop whip and he already has.

So all is lost! Not quite so fast I have a plan! Next turn I declare war joining ruff in second half of turn.

T56: put warrior and scout on hill. DECLARE WAR!
T57: he attacks with the archer (77% chance to win), but notably can't move settler to the hill because of my scout. Pushing the soonest he can settle back to T59.
T58: I settle and warrior moves into city (thanks to roading, which will throw off my corn improvement, but meh)
T59: axe arrives in city making it safe.

T56 nothing had changed. Van DID NOT 2 pop whip, but I still followed through with declaring war after moving both units onto the hill. I was going to ask Mig, but I was 2nd last to play and losing a warrior is a small price to pay. Van has been mainly producing settlers NOT via whipping. Plus I can then try peacing out next turn and continue not building military!
Other T56 notes is that  I actually fell 1T short of completing sailing WHICH SUCKS. Building the settler bumped up my unit cost so I didn't have exact anymore sadly. I really need to redo my micro tonight. Probably for the last time, but want to see where the forest chop between Rome and Antium is going. If it is to the galley or to the granary.

Sounds good, sorry I got nothing to add, but I'll take the blame for the cow, although I'm not sure how that is related to something I said

Oh it is 100% my fault. I was arrogant. I assumed if he settled the southern city for his 5th that my 5th would beat his 6th. Two important things:
1) You proved yourself a good ded lurker by taking blame for something you had nothing to do with.
2) I think I was right! Van / chumchu did a two pop whip this turn, which I'm assuming is the settler. At the very least he didn't take the archer on warrior shot, but he brought up a warrior. I retreated back.

Demo's because it has been a bit. To note there are only 10 players now. They aren't great atm, but I don't have a city above 3 pop atm.
3rd in food is only ok considering, but again low pop. See 8th in population.
9th in soldiers I want to call out. 10th is Cairo so that helps. Also, between the war and being aggressive Rome I think I'm getting away with running a little thin.
Dead last in GNP!!!

Tech path is writing > IW > math > currency or construction
I do want a couple of libraries. Then I figure we go good old aggressive Rome war economy. I figure that I am unlikely to get KTBs from IW at any relevant point. By doing IW before math hopefully I can get 4-6 KTBs for math.

Updated micro. You can tell I kind of stopped doing it for non silver fish projects. Partially due to unknown circumstances. Partly because     WAIT WHAT IS THAT OVER THERE!!!
T57 poem goes to chop 1SW of Antium, una roads dry corn; song roads cows.
T58 settle detassling. Dan puts 1 turn into camp; poem goes to chop 1SW of Antium
T59 settle 4 corners; Dan and Una reunite to improve corn. Produce spear in Cumae stops losing hammers. chop will go into. Spear will float between cities on cairo border.
T60 check cumae to make sure working grassland forest
T61 make sure Poem chop goes into granary; Work cottage at Rome; Dan goes to improve beaver
T62 start settler in Antium; Poem goes to cottage 1S
T63 whip settler
T64 settler loads galley
T66 settle silver fish

Get yelled at by wife for gaming pre guest visit - check
Crashed economy - check
Definitely stealing enemy territory - check

Settler still wasn't on hill, so must have been coming from farther afield. He will just have to settle for wet corn and grassland deer; so sad for him. On not a hill! I sent him a peace treaty. Lines are me trying to figure out what "should" have been his. BTW with all the dry corn I've settled Inca would have been pretty good this game in addition to capital dry rice.

Cairo settled 4th - somewhere. Ruff settled 3rd. I settle 6th next turn. Hopefully won't be losing gold...... popcorn

will i be seeing any actual aggressive Rome sometime?
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. I mean it will be before T130 or whatever neenerneener

But seriously I just took an enemy city and set myself up to take a future enemy city (the one he should plant between corn and deer). That city also sets me up to take the 'reach for corn' spot to the north. All while not paying unit costs!

Also, read the tech path. IW is coming. I have to get this rock bottom economy going though. Something about cottaging all the river tiles I think. Also, the island city should help a bit. Also, I need culture at some point. I'm actually at tech parity with everyone I know except 4 people know mysticism and 4 people know archery.

i see alot of Roman names, have you thought of a naming scheme?

I'm pretty sure we will? And nothing saved up either.... Maybe the right moment to read up on strike mechanics*? Hadn't noticed it was that bad. You sure are missing Vicky are you**?

*the two bits I know: you get one grace turn in strike where you don't lose units (but only once per game!). The next two turns it's just one unit. And I think units outside your territory get deleted first, so you can target sacrifice warriors.

As a short term fix, is the fur hooked yet? Only high commerce tile I can think of. Do we have a religion we can convert to? (To delay the strike, After the silver fish settler it's out)

** naming theme: unfaithful queens!

So I save 1 gold from settling (unit cost of settler), 1 gold from not having units outside borders (yes I could have counted and prevented last turn, but you didn't know that until now). I gain 2 gold from each city being hooked up by trade (new city and Rav because I'm roading gets hooked). I think each city also contributes to number of free overall units right? So I'm probably fine...... Although overall city count maintenance will increase. 4 corners is close so distance shouldn't be bad. I'm pretty sure I can work ivory for +1 and not mess up the micro for 1 or 2 turns if needed.

It is kind of crazy. Main thing is my workers have been busy roading and improving food tiles, so I have 1 cottage (not being worked yet due to early whip in Rome for 4 corners). While it grabs a nice bit of territory and prevents Van from settling that hill Ravenna is 4gpt in maintenance as well. Mind you I should have the lowest unit maintenance costs in this game so most of the cost side is coming from # of cities, which I'm not even top in. IE hoping competition is also hurting.

I do wonder if this is a bulb a math / alphabet game. Or you know finance via capture gold.

Anyways night. Looking like I won't find out answer tonight. Don't know if Van took the peace treaty.

Naming theme is ROME!!!!
