[PB58 - spoilers] AT's Order of the Civ

He offered peace for Endor (honestly, I think our rules are lacking here - we should be able to send a summary of the turn before sending peace offers)

I rejected it. He clearly came out and hit me, but you can't tell what it was and I figured that he did a lot of damage to me, but I did damage to him. Plus, I was about whip walls into Endor and had a pretty decent defense there. Plus more coming.

So, I rejected it, hit his units a little and then offered peace again straight up.

It seems like we are going to be at war for awhile. Which is fine - never do a small injury, speed kills, etc. I don't blame him for being mad about Endor. There's no real way in RB games like this to resolve it in any way other than "neither of us win", which is what it is. If you can't conquer someone, stay at peace.

He keeps insisting on his city back, so I'm just going to stop. Either he'll take it back or he won't. A lot of resources are now going into this city, resources which both of us could use on other players.

I'm not really blaming him for this - I've done it too. First rule of war - attacking someone you can't defeat is self-defeating. To me, the only exception is if they make an obnoxious plant like Gavagai did to Commodore in PB56.

that said, I did it and it didn't work, but I'm still the strongest civ militarily. Everyone else is like "well, we'll let the two guys with the really strong UU's right now battle"

Tarkeel and I are at peace. I just needed to buy him off with some trinkets, it turned out wink Time to settle a bunch of crappy spots and tech up aesthetics, drama, literature, maybe pick up the music GP.

Might build the glib.


By "buy him off with trinkets", I mean I gave him all my gold. I think he needed to feel like I was paying him for peace. He had asked for all my gold the turn before (like 70), but I had spent some so couldn't pay that, so gave him 30 something.

I have a bunch of decisions:

I got a GG during the war. What do I do with it? Settle? I'm thinking I should make a level 4 unit so I can build Heroic Epic, but I have to figure out where to put the epic wink I'm thinking that a C3 trireme and a Nav 2 galley would be good, or maybe a couple of C3 triremes - the ocean seems to be pretty important. An astro push would be interesting - praets make me pretty safe from attack for a long time. Cheaper than maces. Other option would be to settle or make a super medic - but more and more, I'm thinking a couple of super triremes would be good.

So, I did resettle Belkar

Moved it to the hill, which is really where I should have put it originally, I think. better defense, but also gets the food. Nice thing about being creative is that I win cultural battles over 2nd ring tiles, especially if I found before. If he could found next to it, he'd be able to win, but he can't if he doesn't.

I do hope to settle the island north of MitD - trying to figure out if I settle that on the hill or not. Not on the hill gives better tile usage, but is more vulnerable.

Time to settle my crappy fishing village sites to the east. 1 and 2 are easy. 3 has to share food with a better city, but it's good to get down. 4 is crap - no food, no forests, just dye. I might not even bother with it, since it will take forever to be useful and might just end up a drain on the civ. Maybe wait till optics and I get a 3rd trade route, I dunno.

This is the more interesting side. Most of these plants will piss off Tarkeel. I'm ok with that - Ballistaphants are good, but a praet on a hill fortified is 12 - with 20% culture, it's 13+, with walls it's 16 - or, as they say, pretty tough. And those are kind of marginal cities without creative - he might go right where the axe is (1 NW of the 1)

1) is a marginal site, but has enough food to grow to size 6 or 7, is on a hill, and has some commerce and hammers. Not great, but worth it.
2) Is a site. Has the fish and some forests, is vulnerablt to Tarkeel, so needs a lot of defense. he can't really use it with Belkar there, though.
3) Probably the nicest site, but is likely going to ruff or Tarkeel.
4) Sucky site, but has the lake, some forests and some grass, so not totally terrible. Mainly, it's protection for more important cities.
8) (this is way south). I imagine I'll never settle this - it would be interesting, but it's not defendable and has no food and might well piss off the neighbors.

More interesting sites are A or B. Sure to piss off Ruff, A is marginal, but protects Nale and I should be able to take the sheep/iron. Might not be able to hold them for long, since Ruff is creative, too. I doubt I'll even try to get these... I suspect that by the time I get to them, Ruff will control those tiles culturally or will be about to, so I might just end up handing ruff a city.

btw - why the cultural line? Well, we have dyes, and theaters are the doublers for those, plus they are wicked cheap, plus HE is great, plus border culture is a real weapon.

Glib is a decent GB which fits in with the forum and National Epic is obviously a building every civ should build.

Plus, the music GP is great.

So, something has occurred to me.

Tarkeel went out of his way to get the 2nd half of the turn for our war.
He rolled the turn, so he went first this turn.
It's quite possible he and I are going to be a settler race. I'll be able to settle spot #1 in 4 turns (whipped settler in V this turn, it is created and moves to where city 4 would be next turn, moves to the hill SE of 1 the turn after, to 1 the turn after, then settles. he might be able to settle in 3 if he has a settler in range in which case this is moot.

But I'll obviously do what lurkers think. No need to mention anything for now.

I managed to accidentally attach my GG unit to a praet, giving me a 23 xp praet. That is awesome, of course, but not what I wanted to do

Serdoa seems to be attacking Ruff.

Only way he doesn't win is if we dogplie him. I asked Tarkeel for fish/fish, which I dunno if he'll take nor do I know if I can trust. We are settling up on each other out west, after all. But if he and I demiltirize, i coudl hit serdoa and maybe pull Jowy in.

So, Tarkeel reoffered fish for fish, which is apparently correct ettiquette for accepting it (so others don't see it).

He then offered marble and ivory for marble and iron. I'm not sure what that means - obviously, it's a message. I suspect it's "attack someone with marble, him with elephants and me with praets". I don't know who he means. We both border ruff, so maybe him?

I'm not sure how to respond to that. Maybe just offer it back, i guess? Maybe I'll send back something random?

We also have open borders - I'm sending a unit to Mal Calamari to pay attention to his units.
