picklepikkl embarks on the Fool's Journey

Sian sent me the save about an hour before I had to leave, which is pretty convenient. He still hasn't attacked greenline, but did build Chichen Itza.

We are three turns out from cuirassiers (1t Music, 2t Military Tradition), then I believe three more to Printing Press (in contrast, Jowy is 10t out from Printing Press, according to current spy reports). Coincidentally, 6t is also when Taj is coming in, now that all the woods have been clear-cut. The GNP spike from Printing Press and Golden Age at the same time should be pretty fun, especially since I can get Oxford soon into the bargain (in 2t I can whip The Chariot for a University, following which The Fool can build Oxford with a lovely set of hammer-boosting modifiers).

Jowy turned his research on and is now 1t from Printing Press. We're still first in GNP, though. Sian has yet to pull the trigger; in response to growing world tension, our next round of Knights has come out. Not much else to say.

After Jowy got Printing Press, we are no longer first in GNP. That is troubling.

We whipped out our fifth University. Next turn, it's Oxford time (and also Cuirassier time). Sian's now got the largest army in the world by like 200K; we are in second place. I'm not liking the direction this is going, but at least the stack has stayed put.

Sian still hasn't attacked. I don't know what he's waiting for.

Oxford on its way. Alphabet 1t at 0% science, then two turns to Printing Press just as we finish Taj. Let's hope we don't get sniped; nobody has a Great Engineer, though Jowy just popped a Great Scientist. Not sure if it bulbs anything useful for him. He seems to be beelining Rifling, which is a little concerning.

Managed to get Printing Press in at 1t with some tile jiggery-pokery. Seems worth it, for the extra turn of bonus commerce on all my villages and towns. Then Banking -> Rep. Parts -> Rifling.

Jowy is working on Chemistry, which I have to imagine is for the sake of Steel. I really hope so; Cavalry gain bonus attack against cannon devil.

PP is often huge gains to the eco, and I generally prefer over edu if lib is lost. Plus en route to rifles so has military value too

We have an enormous problem, which is this: Sian's Knight stack has disappeared, and there is only one place it could be going if he hasn't declared war on greenline. His EP spending against us has gone up, too.

I proceeded to activate garrison units and shuffle them around on the assumption that we are going to be in a hot war against a foe who outnumbers us in just a few turns. The fact that I don't have Engineering is hurting me here, but maybe if I can get to Rifling and he sees me do so, he'll rethink. Other things that might cause him to rethink: at EOT, we finished Taj Mahal and popped a Great Spy. Sian's scouting chariot has vision of the city in which my Great Artist is stashed, so he knows that I have at least 12 turns of Golden Age production I could throw at him if he attacks. Given that I outtech him militarily, his army is not in position for an immediate war dec, and he knows I know he's coming, he might rethink and instead attack his other neighbor like I want him to.

greenline has offered me a trade of copper for copper, with his marble thrown in. I have no idea what that means, but I accepted; it'll help with the National Epic!

Still no sign of Sian's knights, and we're falling behind in power. Militarizing as hard and fast as possible. Rifling in a couple of turns; Sian is heading for Military Tradition but is far behind on the Rifling track, and Jowy has forsworn it for the false god of cannons. I would really like Sian to declare war on greenline so that I can declare war on Jowy.

You think you'll be able to damage Jowy if you have a clear pass from Sian?

Yeah, I do. I have city visibility on a lot of his land, and I think I could take him with the force of cavs I'm likely to have by the end of my first Golden Age. I might be wrong, but I'd at least like to give it a shot.
