[Spoilers] naufragar's fist full of pesos (Montezuma)

Well, nuts.

And I figured out what the road on the deer is for. It lets two movers hit my stone city from the fog behind Pharsalos. Hmm.

I'm pretty sure that SV can attack me on turn 111. (It is currently turn 109.) If I somehow got something wrong and he can attack on turn 110, I will flip proverbial tables. On turn 108, he two whipped just about every single one of his cities. I haven't been tracking tech. (Sorry, I can't bring myself to work for a doomed caused.) I don't really know if SV just got Horseback Riding, and I haven't seen the 10k power bump on the graphs. Unfortunately, this turn was the decision point:

If there isn't a real threat, I'll be cranky that I abandoned the coastal city, but if SV hits me on turn 111 with 6 horse archers plus assorted ancient junk, I'll be in a world of pain. Hence, Montezuma's Choice. Note that I've emptied out my midlands cow city. If Holland could read my mind, he'd know that this is the perfect time to push me. I'm sort of trusting my opponent doesn't wander into some luck. shhh Note nane's chariot. He moved that up at the start of this turn, so it can't kill an axe. Man, maybe my strategy of antagonizing every neighbor wasn't the wisest.  scared Well, let's see what they do.

By the way, check out the incredibly suspicious worker movement by SV. Last turn, SV had an axe and worker on the deer. The axe disappeared. It didn't go back to Pharsalos. The only place it could have gone is that forest I've marked with a sign. SV then moved his worker to a different forest. It's possible that he just wants to chop that forest and didn't want to chop the deer forest. But that's weird as hell. I suspect that worker will road that forest to help troop movements, either to fork stone and pig cities or some other diabolical reason. (It should go without saying that if SV has an undefended worker on my border on turn 111, I'm sniping it. I'm still sore about the silver.  rant

It's time to start improving the silver. When I moved an axe up, I noticed this concentration of nane's units. I've got 2 axes and a spear on the forested hill to guard the worker. If he attacks with everything, the outcome for either of us is in doubt. Hope nane doesn't. I've only moved one worker to the silver so as not to tempt him. (This doesn't delay the mine.)

Also notice a certain engineering feat Holland has accomplished by Utrecht.

Bored now. Can I be killed off please?

Opened up the turn to nane demanding my silver. His reasoning makes sense: I took the tile from him, so he feels entitled. Unfortunately, he has a bigger ancient era stack, so he could have pillaged it if he wanted to. I responded with a furs for silver & open borders deal. Just trying to buy time. More unfortunately, he logged in again while I was in the turn, so he saw his deal was rejected. I decided to bite the bullet and give him the silver in realtime. He now has 3 unique luxuries to my 1 (in fairness, he started with silver and traded his for SV's gold). He is also Financial/ Charismatic. His potential for growth is way higher than mine, but Azteca can only focus on the short term.

Just eyeballing the stacks, I think nane can destroy mine, but it's a chancy thing. I expect war with nane eventually. He still hasn't forgiven me for losing an 85% roll   refusing to roll over in the midst of an obvious settling race something. He's kept serious military on our border this whole time despite having perfect vision due to his peak tiles.

In domestic news, Aspi is my new best friend. My cities are now big enough to get some foreign trade (and Aspi has Currency). Plus he has declared war on SV. In another life, I'd pile on, but we are all defense all the time these days.

I kill this, right? Like, I'm a corpse, but I'm not your corpse.

Suite's been cramming the cities in:

Just on principle, I feel like I'm obligated to declare holy war. Haven't ended the turn, so if lurkers want to chime in.  mischief

(I logged back in to offer Suite a way out. I moved up my two axes and sent him a trade proposal: my crab for 150 gold. I hope he sees this as "give me money and I'll let you settle on the coast." He's bigger and stronger than me, so maybe he doesn't care, but if he's only guarding that settler with one axe, he is very bold.) (Plus, I'm desperate for cash so I can get to Construction before my neighbors eat me.)

Well, you don't gain anything by killing it except maybe for some satisfaction.

I agree that this city is incredibly audacious.

No one has called Suite on his settling, so he's been able to shoot up both in city count and crop yield. I never showed a picture of this, but Suite's second city was 7 tiles away from his capital. And he's playing Arabia! He has been very bold and never punished for it, which is how you win big games.

In a perfect world, Suite accepts the tribute demand. I wouldn't feel comfortable settling on the coast because Suite could always hit me with boats from the fog. If he settles where he is right now, he at least provides a small buffer between me and Holland. (For what it's worth, Holland, despite having fewer cities and less food than me, is crushing me in tech. He's Financial with a couple extra luxuries, and he's used this advantage to get Construction. I'm not worried yet. His power hasn't climbed and even with catapults, he doesn't have enough cities to really hurt me. Still, he could snipe a city if he tries for it.)

That's an odd way to look at it. What would Suite gain by attacking one of your coastal cities? If you two were to get into a war for other reasons the city would be a weak spot, sure. However, but that is by no means guaranteed and even then having it is better than not having it.
