Looks like SW there's a possibility of orphaning seafood, but I think scouting will instead be E, NE to see if a move is needed that way. It's slow, but I could definitely do worse than this start for a natural map. Wanna bet how many tiles the aqueduct will stretch over?

Not sure if it's ideal, but clams were slow and this lets me not orphan stuff. Agriculture->AH->BW->Fishing->Wheel.

Okay, let’s see if we can figure out what we’ve got at the start. We’ll go in order of the combo quality:
Pindicator (planner, cautious) as Pacal (Fin/Exp) of Mali (Wheel/Mining, Skirmisher, Mint) Pin grumbled to me about this combo back when we thought there’d be a reroll, and I kind of get it. On the one hand, it’s the best or second-best combination rolled, so there’s a lot of pressure to perform well with it. On the other hand, it’s really boring. All that said, he’s going to get good stuff out of this one...Financial is extremely powerful on a script that has coast as its most powerful consistent commerce tile, and cheap Exp granaries are still king (cheap harbors can be excellent too). Mali, meanwhile, is pretty okay with skirmishers making archer-massing viable early and mints being “eh” but fine. Pindicator with this combo wants to just REX steadily behind skirmishers, then tech to knights and roll a neighbor. It’s a fun thing to do, he’ll be okay. Bing (spacey, befuddled) as Victoria (Fin/Imp) of Carthage (Fishing/Mining, Numidian, Cothon) It’s neck-and-neck here between this combo and Pin’s, and I really might give this the edge. Imp is about on par with Exp now really but the Cothon really is nice in a natural map (free commerce is huge) and of course the prowess of the Numidian Cavalry cannot be understated. I don’t predict nearly so strong of a performance from Bing, however...the fellow seems pleasant but vaguely checked out, and his game record is disappointing-to-dismal. He’ll squander Vicky less than Superdeath did in PB64, but I think he’ll squander Carthage even more, just slow off the blocks until eventually eaten. Superdeath (treacherous, frustrating) as Mansa Musa (Fin/Spi) of Sumer (Agriculture/Wheel, Vulture, Ziggurat) An extremely interesting combination here that’s going to be basically nullity/nullity of Vulture/nullity in the hands of Superdeath. 1. I don’t think he realizes how Financial coast works. 2. His Spiritual trait will probably save about as much anarchy as it does an AI. 3. I don’t think he’s aware of courthouses. ...so it’s nice to have a higher base strength axe I guess? Which is a real pretty, cheap early courthouses are excellent, particularly combined with Financial coasts in a natural map. Good combo, but it’s going to just be the Superdeath Standard of expand to economy crash, war, war, and more war. Gavagai (ruthless, aggressive) as DeGaulle (Chm/Ind) of Rome (Fishing/Mining, Praetorian, Forum) Gavagai is running with my favorite combo of the bunch. I love CtH Charismatic a lot, Industrious got a big buff with the strategic resource nerf, and of course base 8 swords are still wonderful. Gavagai will definitely be a big threat this game because of this...he loves targeted wonders, particularly the Pyramids (Ind), he tends to have happiness issues (Chm), and he’s usually warring in the classical era (Praetorians). As ever with Gavagai, his baseline issue is that he cannot have a peaceful demilitarized border. If he’s just got one or two neighbors, I think he does very very well this game. Ginger (novel, tough) as Joao (Exp/Imp) of Celts (Hunting/Mysticism, Gaels, Dun) This is kismet. The guy who played the most compelling Tall-style game in years, only to be thwarted by the Celts, got handed Joao himself, running Celts. I think Ginger is going to hate this. Exp/Imp is always a wonderful race car of a trait combo, the challenge is always keeping the from crashing. Celtia impressed me last couple times I used it, but it’s an odd duck, not really a mainstay. I think despite this not being Ginger’s cuppa, he’ll manage his expansion well enough and this will be a formidable empire midgame. Magic Science (cheery, clever) as Tokugawa (Agg/Pro) of Khmer (Hunting/Mining, Ballin’ Pant, Barry) If the magical science of this game produces a grinding forever war again, Tokugawa is going to be quite wonderful. Of course this isn’t actually an amazing combination, the Ballin’ Pants aren’t a big deal really and the Berries don’t affect much, while there’s nothing Toku does that speeds expansion. Even so, Magic Science seems to have enough of a head on his shoulders to not lean in too much on his traits, he’ll be able to steadily expand into a generic good empire I think. Commodore (noble, handsome) as Saladin (Spi/Pro) of Germany (Hunting/Mining, Rissengarde, Assembly Plant) Our hero has a tough row to hoe, gang, he’s going to need your cheers. There’s a tiny number of games that aren’t already decided by the time Chemistry is researched...and an even tinier number that aren’t decided by the time Steam Power comes along. That the number is greater than zero does mean that CtH Germany is better than the BtS version, but that’s not a high bar. I’m not fond of the Spiritual trait either, it potentially allows better directed Great Person acquisition than Philosophical and might enable some nifty swapping later on, but given the current Realms Beyond meta has shifted to “in extremis all the time” I don’t think it’ll be saving much. So Protective. Walls everywhere, archers and longbows and muskets all slightly better. Really, I need to be one of the on average 2-3 people on a tectonics script who actually have island access for this trait to be better than meh. I’ll talk about general long term plans later, but I certainly don’t feel confident about the package here. Nowfrowfrugor (narrativist, territorial) as Montezuma (Agg/Spi) of Spain (Mysticism/Fishing, Conquistador, Citadel) ...but at least I’m not Nowfrogger. See above complaints about Spiritual. Aggressive is actually probably an equal economic trait to Protective given Nofferbog’s lifestyle. Now add the fact that his UU is ALL THE WAY OFF THE BEATEN PATH at Military Tradition. Wall-free castles are nice, but I don’t think they make up for the rest, and Engineering is hella late most games too. The plans that Nifflegrowl makes won’t matter much, of course, he’s going to expand, find a neighbor in a city site that’s tagged as “his”, and then spend a gloriously entertaining rest of the game locked in eternal wars of wrath and revenge. It’s beautiful, but I don’t think it’s going to be leading to a lot of combo usage.

Everytime I see your excellent player analysis I think to myself: "I have to play a game against him just to get my two words/traits."

Scouting report, and Hefeweizen founded: Very fine potential second city site there that shares cows and gains clams/lighthouse lake. North, I'm sure that plains cow and a grass farm will be the food for one of the classic Howling Plains Interior cities. I really need to pop a tech from that hut, this start is highly tech-constrained.

No, the only game we were both in was PB59 and back then you didn't do the sobriquet due to too many players in there. I was a bit disappointed back then as that sobriquet was one reason for me to join PB59.

"Downright Sweetheart" is from me at least.
Been scouting "deep" looking for another player... ...but now I don't want to see one next turn: Two huts popped with any luck next turn. Really hope one has a tech to help my dog's breakfast of a start.
