Minister Jaisan is Cantha's version of Tyria's Magi Malaquire. Before Canthan characters could do the cap sig quest with Magi Malaquire after they crossed over and completed "Orrian Excavation" (I think thats the quest) and then do the cap sig quest, and then come back and get another cap sig as a reward.

Canthan characters can't do the Magi Malaquire quests now, so they added Minister Jaisan in Kaineng who gives an initial quest to go cap a skill, and then as a reward he gives you another cap sig. I don't think Tyrian characters can do that quest.

Oh well.

It's about 2 months until Nightfall is released. If the PvE in that is closer to what it is in Prophecies, would anyone like to try this out for that campaign? We could probably make a few slight bends in the rules about skills and picking stuff up to sell since it'd be a brand new campaign and there's always that urge to want to see/get everything new.

Possibly, yep.

All right, so a bit of an update on things. Hawk, Zed-F, and I have decided to try this out on Nightfall during the time slot that nudists have (Tuesdays, 8:30 PM EST). If you're interested in joining us then leave a note here, we'd be glad for the company.

I think it'd also be a good idea to have a few more guidelines set up before we start so we aren't playing this by ear when Nightfall is released. I think we should take a queue from the nudists and say that the once per week meeting time should be limited to storyline quests and missions; we just don't have the time to do all the side quests (it took me about 17 hours of playing time during the preview weekend to do so, which adds up to about 8-10 weeks just on newbie isle). Granted, Istan (aka newbie isle) is still going to be a pain since there's that whole Sunspear rank thing, but it should work out all right. I hope.

Another thing I feel worth mentioning is that you can use the characters outside the variant scope if you want, we're not asking you to completely give up a character slot. Just be forewarned that should you choose to buy armor in a town, you may not use it when we gather for the events. You'll have to keep your set of collector-found armor on hand -- if you throw it away that's your own fault and you'll have to walk around without armor on. Same deal with weapons. If a boss drops a 15^50 max damage weapon with perfect mods for you when you're not playing the variant and you throw away the less-than-perfect weapon you had for the variant... you're out of a weapon.

While we're on the subject of weapons, I'm inclined to say that you may make use of any special-preorder items you have, including the 2 new ones for the Dervish and Paragon.

Also, I didn't see any skill quests at all during the preview, so we may have to lift the limitations on buying skills from trainers. We'll find out whether any exist at all during the first week the game is out, but just in case there aren't any, I'd like to suggest that you may buy any skill from a trainer as long as you use the money you found on the field (i.e. no taking that precious platinum out of the stash to buy skills).

Anyways...

I've been thinking about what to do with the extra character slot from the Nightfall pre-release. I was originally going to use my Dervish for the variant, but then I thought that might not be entirely fair since I plan to powerhouse it out (aka I'll probably be level 20 and a Sunspear Marshall well ahead of the rest of the group) which wouldn't really be fair to the rest of the group. That leaves a Paragon and the 3rd slot, which right now I'm thinking will be an Elementalist. Well, I suppose it's no rush since we've still got about 3 weeks until Nightfall and 4 until that first meeting Tuesday.

I probably won't have time for this variant as it is on Tuesdays, but I can try to be there now and again. My games are between 7-9 PM PST. So if my game isn't until 8-9, I can play from 5:30 to 7 or 8. Enough for a mission or maybe two depending on how long it takes us to start. Since we're not really doing many of the quests together, then that makes it easier for me.

Okay, so say you're playing by variant rules by yourself and you're doing one of the quests or collecting sunspear points. Are you allowed to use any weapon you find then? Are we allowed to use collector weapons? What about id kits and salvage kits?

Yes.

Yes, you can use the ones from collectors where you trade 5 (or however many) whatevers for it. What you can't use are the weapons from crafters where you pay a few plat and the materials.

That's already been discussed if you look back a few posts.

It probably wouldn't hurt to update the rules on the first post once we get closer to starting so we have a nice convenient summary of the revised rules. We'll probably need to play Nightfall for a couple days with other characters to make sure we get any last-mintue tweaks covered before finalizing the rules though.

Done. I was planning to wait a bit longer on doing that, but I figure if I didn't do it while I was thinking of it I'd never remember; this way we can also still make advanced preparation changes if we want to.

Yeah, such as that whole skill quest thing.

I checked the calander and the first Tuesday after NF is released is Halloween. I'm thinking it might be beneficial to wait a week before starting since, y'know, it's Halloween.
