What do you mean with that? If I read sticky about Japan the sticky for Mali is still marked as unread.

If I refresh after reading Japan, ALL the stickies are marked. Since I typicall read a thread, then go make to the main menu in the same browser window the refresh happens regulary.

The back button doesn't fix this problem for me. I think it is how my IE setting are for when to update a webpage.

I personally also would prefer the old way. The stickies work well to organize an event such as Potluck, but for regular events, its probably best to stick to individual threads. However, it would be nice if all the previous reports could be organized together by game, but that could get messy with links and stuff.
