With that in mind, I wonder how long my 350W power supply will last given I have an 8800 GTS and a quad-core CPU. Maybe not so long... :-/
It all depends on what the 12v rails can do. A quality 350W can probably handle an 8800 better than a garbage 500. If your supply is able to be stable and run the card and the processor without crashing then you're probably fine, at least for a while. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get a
quality PSU though, if/when you upgrade. Buying one of those junk PSUs you see advertised for $0-20 after rebate or whatever is just a bad idea and an easy way to destroy your comp.
Edit: Just throwing in an example of what I mean.
This 500W PSU, for example (which was the first one I found doing a NewEgg search for 500W and then $10-25), only has 18A on the 12v rail, which means it definitely won't be able to handle an 8800 (for that matter, it will probably have trouble with a 6000 series card). On the other hand, there's
this 380W PSU from SeaSonic that has two 12v rails at 17A each (which is really just 1 rail at 34A, 12v rails are often split nowadays for safety/efficiency purposes but it's still technically just 1 rail) which means it can probably handle an 8800 card (but I still wouldn't recommend it).
This is the PSU I'm using and it's been running my 8800GTS with no problems at all, and it's got the neat bonus of being 80 Plus certified (note that Antec PSUs are manufactured by SeaSonic, but aren't as high in quality). Anyways, shutting up about that now.
Getting back on topic, at least somewhat... I was wondering what the rate of getting Kurz/Lux faction is nowadays via Alliance Battles, i.e. how long it takes to win/lose nowadays and what the faction amount averages out to. Reason being is, if you're going for the titles and want to farm the faction you can get about 500, give or take, in about 4 minutes doing the arena quests in hard mode, assuming you can get the shrines (if not, then it's only 400). That translates to about 7k faction in an hour. Not sure what the current AB situation is like, but I seem to recall it being a bit faster than that when we would actually win games (and get in them without waiting around for opponents for 5+ minutes).
