Nice try at the early win, too bad you came up just short, and too bad you lost three planets to three different AI all declaring at almost the same time.
I think you're being a little hard on yourself about the farmers gambit. Sure, building some popguns or whatnot would have been a good idea, but those planets were easily survivable loss and in a normal game, if it were me, I wouldn't even have broken a sweat over them.
I'd just look at it as risk vs reward. Your reward could have been a spectacular win, the risk? That you play about 50 more turns in a game that, with your skill level, was won from the beginning anyway.
I'm sure I would have lost focus in this event over it myself too.
