[SPOILER] Elizabeth of Korea - Malakai

...are we supposed to be able to see that much? Kind of ruins the surprise in exploring for a while...

Anyway, I'll summarize my thoughts:
1. Given the circumstances, I would still be against going for early religion. Tons of forests for chopping into monuments, and gold+gems means a high happy cap even without religion. Plus, 4 out of our 5 opponents start with Mysticism.
2. Settling in place seems best to me, as we'd waste many turns moving to a more food-rich start. The oasis and irrigated corn should hold us for a while, right? Anyways, just remember that whipping the capital should be avoided with this little food in the BFC.
3. I think our first tech should be either Bronze Working or Agriculture. Bronze Working is good if we want to go with a 2 worker start--somewhat risky, but with so many forests and warriors starting on our capital square. If we want to go Warrior 2nd after Worker to grow to size 2, then Agriculture seems best to me. My test start shows Worker completion on turn 8 with Bronze Working on turn 9, so there would be no wasted turns on the worker regardless (1 turn to move into forest).
4. Slavery revolt should probably wait until after our first settler, as there's no chance we'll be whipping the capital anytime soon anyway.
5. For short term tech benefits, an early religion could follow Agriculture if they're not claimed, or The Wheel + Pottery for roads, cottages, and a Granary to speed the slow growth of our capital.

Ok mate, having loaded the turn and studied the map in game, I can actually see slightly further than on the screen shot, 7 tiles from the starting location in each direction, nothing interesting except the fact that the tiny fragment of a tiles i can see around the edge is also forested so no evidence or water or anything at this stage.

I did noticed that there is quite a few splatters of ICE, including a very strange Icy Forested Corn....WTF!

No rivers is a bit of a bummer, despite the abundance of resources this significantly reduced the fertility of the lands.

Anyway, I have considered your comments and I have dediced to make a slight change to your plan, you said go Bronze Working for a double worker start or alternatively Agri for Worker Warrior start.

Well I have not decided whether to go worker - warrior or whether to double worker at the start, but for the time being I am building my first worker and starting agriculture, I agree that bronze working should be the second tech.

I was trying to decide whether to put some turns into a warrior to grow to size two....but I have until my worker finishes to make the decision.

Also I am sending my warrior out in a straight line to see if i can see whats beyond the shadows at the edge, to find out if there is another player nearby or if there is something seperating the players (water or mountains perhaps?)...I will post a screen shot when I see something new or if anything interesting happens.

Might be a bit early for this, as bronze working will reveal copper and we'll certainly have that before a settler, but I have a proposed second city site:

Here are the benefits of this site as I see them:

1. Close to capital. Not much settler travel time or maintenance.
2. Irrigated grassland wheat, grassland cows, grassland hills sheep give a large food surplus and can combine with the other hills in the BFC for decent production.
3. Plains hill site. +1P right off the bat.
4. Can work the gold if the capital has food surplus problems (and from the looks of things it likely will), at least until Bureaucracy.
5. If copper or iron (or even horses?) are in the BFC, then this becomes a very strong early game production center. With two oasises and a gold it could even become a strong hybrid.

Hey mate, thanks for the dot map and the comments, I definately want my second city to me a strong production site, so it needs to have as much in the way of hills as possible and the site you have proposed does seem to have quite a lot of production potential whilst still having some good food and commerce tiles too.

Anyway turn 2 played and passed on, nothing to add at this stage as the turns will be rather uneventful for a while, my scouting warrior continued on his exploration and has not found anything we did not already know so far.

3 turns left until Agriculture completes, still aiming to go bronze working after that.

Pretty quiet in here. Anyways, my reasoning for going Warrior after Worker (with Agriculture) would primarily be to allow the capital to grow to size 2 in order to work the farm you're going to build on the corn for future workers and settlers. Just part of my own OCD-ish nature to not build an improvement you can't work for a while (and I don't think you want to stop working the Oasis just yet, that's some big commerce right now)!

Yeah thats a fair comment, well either way Agriculture has now finished and onto Bronze Working now, I worked out the worker will finish 2 turns before Bronze Working, that means by the time the improvement is build Bronze Working is finished, this is also important to allow me to see copper and this might effect second city placement, as I need this early on for defense against barbs.

Warrior is only about 3 tiles from the edge of the known lands, so when I find more with him I will post, I might give him a name that shows his scouting nature....hmm any suggestions for naming conventions for my units / cities?

Turns are coming around pretty quick, was only home last night for about an hour, the turn was with me so i delayed going out to get it played, when i got up this morning it was already back with me!

A little update, my warrior has now reached one edge of the visible lands, and I discovered...beyond the edge of the land...

*Drum Roll insues*

More forests....woop!

I will continue my investigations into the unknown and update if i actually see anything other than trees lol!

After I ended turn it shows as 3 turns left of Bronze Working

Just wanted to wish all my lurkers a very merry xmas smile

Oh and turn played, I just started teching "The Wheel" this is a 3 turn tech and Pottery is likely to be following closely behind.

Still working on my warrior, whilst my initial warrior continues his scouting endeavours, I have encountered more resources but nothing of note...sheep and deer.
