Sorrow's Furnace Update

Quote:The Quest Log now groups quests by importance and region.

The green Quest Arrows now guide you towards the next step of the quest even if it is more than one map away.

Traders now display a "last paid" price on the sell tab.

The names of Major Runes now appear purple (uncommon), and those of Superior Runes are now displayed in gold (rare).

The Skill List now sorts skills by attribute in its default setting.

The trade window more clearly distinguishes between platinum and gold offered, and displays a warning if the other player offers customized items.

A button on the Guild tab provides easy travel to your Guild Hall.

Typical. The only changes that they've implemented that I actually like are just UI ones. The trade window warning should've been there from the off, I saw many a newbie scammed out of hard cash for useless collector's armour in pre-searing.

I'm liking what I've seen of the update so far. One problem I hit was the enormous load on the first entry to Sorrow's Furnace and a few other big loads besides. The 6MB load getting through the portal to the Furnace took so long that the rest of my team were finishing off a mob and there was some chatter about having activated a quest by the time I arrived. If I'm on 256K downstream, what do 56K'ers face??? eek

I can't help but wonder why there isn't some kind of way of streaming the patch files to the client during idle moments in town before heading out. If for example there was a system of checking for update files up to two zones away from the outpost location you are currently in then you could enter town, plant the character while you go make a coffee, come back and get on with enjoying the game.

And what's with the chests? I paid 600g a throw for a couple of keys and got 11 wood planks (from a crap staff) and a 134g purple dwarf robe of minor protection. One team member was busily crowing, but Zophiel Ravenspell and Ice Blade were getting towed around the mountainside scrounging for pennies. frown

*sigh*

The key system does seem pretty stupid, since the item I got from my first chest is worth considerably less than the sale price (not buy price) of the key it took to unlock it.

It'd be nice if the drop was guaranteed to be worth more than the cost of the key, but meh.

Well, it is suitably dense, yes.

I'm liking the key system, it's a little something to do while out with friends. I guess I got lucky with one gold armour that turned out to be a superior I needed to unlock, so I'm not too sore about the price of the keys.

In the long run sure, it might be a waste of money, but I haven't got much else to spend money on, not with perfect items raining down all over the place. Now if I could use gold to buy extra storage space... Grin

Best thing about the update for me personally is the abolishment of attribute refunds. That means more flexibility which is always good in my mind. Trouble is, now I may need additional armour pieces to complement every build I feel like trying out. eek

And it will drive the merchants and sellers prices down. In the end, us poor people benefit from the rich who can afford stacks of keys.
