Would anyone be interested in a team?

Quote:Hmmmm, naked characters... If we do this, we MUST take lots of screenies

Heh, and start a GW porn site [Image: lol.gif]

Imagine when we get cocky enough to GvG with a team of nudist [Image: smoke.gif]

Quote:it seems awfully cruel to make the Warriors tank in a totally armor-free state; they'll just be slaughtered, unless they and the monk(s) load up on protective spells, many of which don't become available until later in the game. Unlike in D2, armor is actually useful in GW! Is there some way to mitigate this?

I would imagine damage reduction, evade/block skills will play a big role, and we might get help from dispensable meat shields in the form of pets and summons.

Sounds fun, though!

Heh, I don't think a GW porn site would do anything to corrupt the depraved players any more than is already the case - as some of the in-town chat reveals. But it's an amusing thought, nonetheless.

I had forgotten about minions - do you think that the summoning skills of the necro need to be limited, so that the team doesn't degenerate into The Tag-Alongs of 20 Bone Fiends? One of the PuG games I was in had a summoning necro who had about that many (no joke). Perhaps limit the number to 2-3?

You know, testing this doesn't require a huge commitment.

We can take some bored current chars, strip them down, and do a little play-testing to see if a scratch team is a good idea.

There you go, Cy - using LOGIC again! wink

This would be easy enough to do, though I'm not sure it would be a true test of the concept - if we do a n00d team, we can expect to undergo quite a bit of change and growth as we progress from Ascalon to the Ring of Fire. A quick test with pre-existing characters may not show the full potential of awesome and long-standing teamwork. thumbsup In other words, I wouldn't give up on the concept if the test team immediately gets their arses handed to them.

I'd say completely naked is pretty much impossible, since Spectral Agony eats through your health like it's nothing without infused armor. Even with Protective Spirit on so the damage is cut from 300/second to... 48, it still lasts for a good 5 seconds, plus the -20 degen you'll get (luckily only -10 at once), meaning both Healing Breeze (I think +7 is the highest it can go without runes) and Shield of Regeneration (maxes at +9 at 12) will have to be on a person to prevent the massive loss, although you're still left with -4 plus whatever other degen conditions are present. Combine that with the fact that the Mursaat never come in solo groups (aside from a few places in the Shiverpeaks) and they don't all target the same person with Agony, and you're not going to be able to get past them. The closest thing I can think of would be to have everyone be either monk primary or secondary with their own Protective Spirit, which would really limit the team.

I'd say that instead of being completely naked with no armor, allow people to use the starter armor that they get when the character is created. The caster armor class is 5 (I think ranger is 7 and warrior is 10), which is a barely noticable difference from no armor at all, and (I'm not sure about this) the warrior and ranger armors don't have the added defense vs. physical/elemental. It would also give them the infusion ability. The only downside to it (assuming we're going for underpowered chars) would be that casters would get the 4 energy regen and bonus energy.

Hmm... now that I think about it, this probably could just as easily have gone in KoPs thread. Oh well.

I agree that Spectral Agony looks very scary, and it's the hardest decision we will have to make whether to allow armor at all, and how much. The reason I don't want to make that decision before we have a few encounters with Mursaats is that it will encourage more creative thinking.

I am (willing and ready) for testing certain things for hard data, however, I echo Hawkmoon's take on such tests can only give us a partial picture, and even a skewed view. Really, the makeup of the team and how the team approaches any given challenges plays the biggest role in what is or is not possible.

I am just thinking, as a team, there might be way(s) around the Mursaat problem. I mean, even naked, there's still ways to tank and shut down a Mursaat and a mob of Mursaats. The team would just have to have a sacrificial lamb or two, and the rest of the team can deal with dealing out the damage. So I keep hoping....
