I like this combination. It seems pretty fun, while being quite flexible too. What do you think, wetbandit?

I had a similar instant reaction, at least as far as Shaka goes. Great leader, nerfed Financial, but the buffs to Aggressive certainly makes this attractive. The city maintenance reduction and culture from barracks definitely intrigue me.
Biggest issue is with the starting techs for Greece: Fishing, Hunting. And then I remembered that Pastures are unlocked by Hunting in RBmod. So, pretty much all of my concerns evaporated immediately. I guess Phalanxes are OK too.
I think we could do a lot worse.

Good call about starting techs, I was forgetting about it. But I agree that hunting enabling pastures solves any problems we could have, since we'll be only one tech away of improving all the possible food resources.
Phalanxes don't have a specific counter and with agressive and culture from barracks (meaning another promo, like shock), I think they can actually be used in this game.
No need to lock the pick right now, but I'm happy with what we got.

Agree on the hyper-utility of Phalanxes; no decent counter until HAs, but people will build HAs. If we get to the point where we are considering Odeons, that likely means things are going very well.
I'm shocked at how quickly this game is moving.

Yeah, things are being organized pretty quickly. Hopefully this means the atmosphere of the game will be a more relaxed one too.
I'm thinking about locking our pick. Any other consideration you'd like to make or should I go ahead and do it?

Sure, lock it in. We're both happy with this combo and no use rolling another one that may end up being something we dislike.

I think you said that Shaka was FIN up there wetbandit; Shaka is AGG/EXP. I don't know if that sways your choice but I wanted to point that out, make sure you hadn't read it wrong.

Why was I thinking of Ragnar's traits? I'm very proud to have made one egregious mistake before the game even begins.
Thanks for pointing that out, Brick. I'm still fine with the pairing.
Expansive: +100% production of Markets, Aqueducts,Grocers, Harbours, +35% production of workers and work boats, +2 Health/City
Does this change anything for you Ichabod? I assume you were on top of this as it was.

No, no. I think I prefer Expansive over Financial, anyway. We get a ton of free buildings and worker bonus that seems more meaningful with nerfed slavery. And we get a head start on the Hanging Gardens!
