Gavagai's spoiler thread

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I like Sury. I expect that the game may be mostly decided really early and we need the best early-game leader to at least took an active part in it.

And yet another option, given the circimstances: take Rome as the first pick and a strong aggressive leader as the second.

The problem with Rome is that by taking it you make your gameplan bloodingly obvious and your neighbors would adjust after meeting you. You will be able to spoil their game but you won't be able to make significant gains. But this game has several really green/weak players. May be we should gamble on starting next to one of them? Because, really, I want to be serious about playing for win but I can't hope to defeat Krill/Sevens by conventional means.

Additional problem with Rome is that when you eliminate a civ, you get about half of its land. The other half will go to its neighbor from the other side and this neighbor can turn out to be Sevens or Noble. Of course, there are situations to which this is inapplicable but I don't think that we can have them on a handmade map.

If we start next to a weak player, we won't need praets to eat them...

I reallly think leader first is warranted, we can get a civ based on our start on the way back.

Yep, Praets basiclly lock us in a single strategy from start; strong leader offers a variety of options...

Finally something to talk about:

-Settle 1N for a thirteen turn worker seems like the best decision. A second or third city can grab the fur

-Lots of rivers, FIN is amazing with this start

-Key techs- Agriculture, Hunting, The Wheel
