Scout. What else wink And the second build will probably be Scout as well smile

Oh yes, the most OP unit in the game wink

My first hut. Right next to a barb camp

Popped it this turn, got a Warrior upgrade. Good for Barb hunting, although not ideal to finish the turn next to the camp, almost guaranteed to take some damage

Updates? smile

Can you give us some general overview of your empire?

Will do when the next save arrives. Sorry for lack of updates, which is a direct consequence of lack of time smile But I have a week off and can catch up somewhat at least

Right. Here goes then. I'm currently on 3 cities, and will continue expansion when the National College is finished. Moscow is close to the southern tundra

So I followed the common sense direction and expanded to the north

Both St. Petersburg and Novgorod are near mountains, so will qualify for Observatories later on

Cities:

Moscow is by far the best city, as the capital tends to be at this stage of the game. I built the Great Library because I saw the opening, it was only going to take 10 turns, and the timings worked our right to start on National College as soon as the wonder was finished. Took Drama and Poetry with it, the most expensive tech I had available on the way to Civil Service

St. Petersburg is short on food, but this should be fixable with trade routes. It is a clear production city, and is currently building Archers to stop the barbarian threat once and for all, and also defend from Azza should he decide to attack

Novgorod, on the other hand, is shot on production - although this is getting fixed, now that it's receiving a proper Worker attention

I'm thinking of planting 3 more cities when the National College is finished. 6 is a lot of Civ5, but if I settle them quickly enough, they should have time to grow and overcome the penalties that come with adding new cities (tech cost increase being the most severe one). I do need some coastal cities, and also want to connect all the luxuries I have around. So here are the planned spots

This is all up in the air of course. None of these slots are particularly amazing, and all of them may have food problems. The first one is the only one with food (note Lake Victoria in the 3rd ring), but it doesn't have much besides food. That one is the only one definitely worth founding though, it's the best of the three potential spots, and I do want the 4th city to take full advantage of Tradition bonuses

Speaking of Tradition, so far I only took policies from that tree, and will finish it with the next policy (so in 8 turns). I won't be out of Classical era by that time, so will probably take a few policies from Liberty to support the expansion to 6 cities

The tech tree currently looks like this

Demos. Azza's high power is a worry, and the main reason I'm building Archers. Although high production is the lowest, so he probably is not thinking about war? Not sure. Better safe than sorry. I'm in good shape otherwise

Trade routes. I find it funny that St. Petersburg, the lowest food cities, is sending food caravans to both other cities. Once the Novgorod trade route runs out, that caravan will reverse direction though, and help St. Petersburg grow

Thanks for the update, you seem to be in a really strong position.

If I remember correctly, everyone will get a pantheon and you're at 12 faith already. One shrine might be a worthy investment wink

Yeah I was thinking about it, but didn't get to it yet. I was on 8 faith for a while, met a religious city state on the other side of the map for another 4 just a few turns ago
