It's fine with me. smile I haven't played PBEM before and, win or lose, I'd like to have fun while exploring areas of the game that are new to me. I also have no problem with any dedlurkers offering you advice or general suggestions.

Just to clarify and ensure I am being open regarding my skill level and experience, I not only have no MP experience but I also have never won a SP game above Prince.

I stumbled across the AI Survivor games on Twitch, which brought me to your site. Since then I've been unofficially lurking your forum, and I thought it was about time to sign up. smile

Would anyone be interested in playing a normal speed, BTS MP game? I hope this does not sound too dull for you all. wink I have a ton of SP experience, but I've never played a MP game before. So sticking with the base game at normal speed would help ease the transition. I've no problem accepting any common tweaks beyond this (no Elephants/Spies/Nukes, etc.).

As to my skill level, well, it's hard to judge from a MP perspective. This sounds about right:

(February 13th, 2014, 20:29)sunrise089 Wrote: Well I don't disagree with you, I'm just trying to emphasize a different aspect of Deity play. Obviously stuff like buddying to AIs through religion and running aggressive settling races might not help/may hurt. What I was trying to get at is being competent enough at basic mechanics to win Deity means one's understanding of at least some aspects of gameplay will be above the RB floor. Gaming the Deity AI notwithstanding, I still figure if a guy is a > Immortal level player he at least knows how to produce GPeople when desired or specialize cities, stuff like that.

Personally, I've no problem playing with veterans if the map doesn't encourage an Axe or Chariot rush as the optimal play. I don't mind losing, but it would be good to survive beyond turn 50. lol

To add to this: I'm not sure how the Pitboss or PBEM formats shape their respective games, but either seems fine to me in principle. I'm also happy to defer to the forum's common wisdom about broken MP settings (e.g. blockades are mostly pointless in SP, but I can see how they would suck in MP).

I'd be glad to play against anyone, and I hope that a standard BTS game will still interest some of the experienced players here. smile

I'm going to have to agree with what sunrise said here. I'm actually an example of what he mentions. A standard game for me is deity, normal size, random AIs, barbarians on, tech trading on, no events/huts, on a big/small or a similar map. (I've posted several detailed write-ups of my games over at CivFanatics.) However, much of what I'm able to do relies on knowing the AI very well (one reason why I've been very interested in the ongoing AI tournament), and I'd consider my military and city development skills to be average or below average among the better deity players and the better multiplayer players here.

If you want to learn how MP functions, I recommend reading some of the old Pitboss games here, particularly looking at the teams who ended up winning the games. Probably the biggest advice one can give to a new multiplayer player, however, is that you really need to plan out every turn and play turns carefully. Make sure you know what you're going to do before you play the turn! I reload all the time in single player due to random misclicks and realizations of suboptimal worker plans, but that doesn't work out in multiplayer.

Also, I'd be happy to be a dedicated lurker, but it'd have to be a lurker wink. While I could play turns in an emergency, my current grad student job ends up being so much better if I have uninterrupted days to focus on computer science.

I'd like to join. Though there'll be a week or so in June where I won't be able to play.

I'd also be interested in lurking this game, but can't make commitment to actually play. I'm not sure if my advice (if any) will be all that valuable, but hey - I hope it'll make for an interesting discussion wink

I don't mind, although I can't speak for Alhazard or ipecac. It's also important that you enjoy the game. Don't feel that you have to sign-up if you won't feel comfortable playing.

Would a dedlurker be willing to help and advise (or unofficially team up with) LogicalTautology? This might be a good way to balance things out.

Sign-up list (still open):

1. DTG
2. Alhazard
3. LogicalTautology (provisional)
4. ipecac (needs cover for 1 week in June)
5.

+ a few (ded)lurkers.

As far as BtS bans, isn't the Statue of Zeus usually banned, too? I thought some other leaders get the ban hammer as well, but I can't really remember.

I could perhaps be a dedicated lurker and sometimes turn player for someone, but I am not sure that I should commit to another solo game.

I can dedlurk, though - as I said - that wouldn't necessarily strengthen the team all that much. I certainly want to lurk a player trying to win! (even if he believes other players to be stronger). And - joining from a sense of obligation would not make a good game for anyone, I think.

LogicalTautology - if You want to play with Your heart in it, You have a (first-time) dedlurker wink . If not, I think it's better to leave it to others.
