That's not my play window. I hope I didn't type that in PBEM10. :S
More like 1830 - 2330 British time (currently UTC+1) most days. Still fits the schedule reasonably well.

I'm still tentative on whether to accept the spot so perhaps someone else should have first refusal.

I don't think I'm ready to throw my hat in the ring yet, but I'll be a dedicated lurker for someone.

Gathering Storm Meanderings: PBEM 15 - Gorgo You Say Pítati, I Say Potato: PBEM 17 - Nubia The Last of the Summer Wine: PBEM 18 - Eleanor/England

If I do not wind up being the person in the 6th slot I will probably dedlurk.

@Banzailizard: I fear our play windows will be an issue (especially later game once the turns start taking 30+ minutes to play). My schedule changes from week to week such that my play window moves +/- about 2 hours. Some 75% of the time I'd need to receive the turns by 6:30 AM in order to reliably get the turns out before work ... but I run an alternate schedule where can't start playing the turn until 8 AM and thus can't promise it out before 8:30-9.

Dedlurkers are welcome, but I can promise that my reporting will not be up to the standards of TheArchduke, OleDavy or Pindicator (Golfclap) ... I can't do daily updates but intend to keep up at least weekly reporting (similar to my duel threads)

Yeah I kind of figured when I saw the time windows it was not going to work. If I am dedlurking I'd rather it be a situation like this where its from the start though so I can be part of the whole game.

So when do we kick this off, do we wait for a 6th player?

Any decision on the start era and the map?

I reckon I'll go for the sixth spot, provided you don't mind playing vanilla with no DLC civs.

I tried out a Medieval start. It is full of weird and wonderful and mostly undocumented stuff. I started with two settlers, a scout and an archer. When the first settler founded a city it had several population and a spearman and a builder appeared from nowhere. The second city also had a free builder and population but no military unit. After that, things were closer to normality.
As far as research goes, all techs and civics below the medieval age were researched, all techs and civics in the early medieval column were boosted... except one civic. And there was a civic from earlier that was both completed and boosted, resulting in some odd graphics.

So overall I'm neutral on the idea of a medieval start. On one hand I'm concerned about balance and whether a medieval start game will suffer from the late game economy problems that have been surfacing in other PBEMs but even sooner. On the other hand it's an interesting new thing to try that's off the beaten path of previous games.

I might look at a classical start at some point to see what you get for free there.

I've been wanting to see a medieval start, just so the later parts of the tree past the Renaissance get explored. We've had some industrial age warfare, but not much, and most games are decided in the Classical era when the Archduke eats all his neighbors.
