LK tries SMAC again

I have pondered this myself.  Civ6 just never grabbed me or left any desire to master or replay it.  Is this a product of nostalgia?  Am I just accustomed to a type of game that isn't popular any more?  If I were younger and played Civ5/6 first, how would I feel?  I don't know.

I have a question about one of your pictures though: Where did all the roads come from around Virgin Soil?  The rest of your road network seems to just connect cities, but this is a fully enmeshed grid with no other developments.  Was it from a random event?

It was all built. You may see the colonly pod heading to where the fast unit is. It was done planning on the next city coming down.

DirectDraw=0

Add that anywhere under [Alpha Centauri] in Alpha Centauri.ini in the game folder.  (I'm using an original CD installation, don't know if it's different for the GOG version, but doubt it.)

With that, I had to turn off wonder movies, or else the video mode switch that happens with that screws things up.  Alt-Tab may also function weirdly.  Seems to work better if you set the desktop to 8-bit color depth before launching the game.

While you're editing the .ini, you may also find WinsFileBox=1 to be useful, it replaces the load/save dialog with a standard Windows dialog.  (I so wish the later Civs had this.)

The GOG version does some weird stuff with Alt-Tab, but it can be fixed to work normally without too much difficulty. There is some info on how to do it in the comments at the GOG site for SMAC.

I complete the Planetary Transit System.

What a difference in the next governor vote.  People = power is true in the whole Civs series.  My population versus the world is much better.

I catch stupid fighting.  The two weaklings of Hive and Sparta are fighting each other.

Planetary Transit plus colony pod spam looks really strong. But if you are not sending out a lot of colony pods, nearly useless. The SMAC SPs are interesting, with some big variability.

For the two weaklings, maybe they are weak because they have been fighting for a while?

I have another nearby island to settle. Room for multiple cities. wink
First transport with colony pod heading there right now.

Plus I still have stray spots to fill on the main island. Probably still 10+ cities to drop down.

Are you near Doctrine Air Power? Needlejet colony pods are a very cool way to settle islands fast.

Nope, still a while to get there. Still need to do a lot for energy output.
I do plan to spend all my rush cash on the new island. It is going to need a ton of former work since it is drowning in fungus.

Don't waste former turns removing fungus until you've improved everything else. Get forests on every other tile first, since they can automatically grow into fungus squares.
