As to where would war trolls be more useful, I literally am asking you that. I use bezerkers to kill very rare units led by wizards with very rare combat spells. Therefore, I assume that I can kill anything that might be relevant.
I use bezerkers to one shot great drakes. I use bezerkers to kill adamantoum war trolls and war mammoths. I use bezerkers to kill djinn and archangels.
Yes, war trolls have better stats, individually - so yes, they are great units. But when do they do something bezerkers can't?
And recall, I haven't limited your spells yet. I haven't stated play life - nor am I restricted by needing spells that hit fliers. So anytime you intend to use a spell for a war troll, my argument is that there is an equivalent (based on number of picks) that is actually stronger for bezerkers.
For instance, you cast resist magic on your trolls.. so cast in on bezerkers. You cast chaos channels on your trolls.. well I don't need to fly or get a breath attack, so 2 life books gives me holy armor, instead of 5 chaos books plus research time for chaos channels. You get flame blade with chaos channels, so add an extra book for holy weapon - I'm still 3 picks up on you - and I have 6 figures so any offensive buffs are 50% stronger on bezerkers. The offensive difference between the two units cannot be overstated - bezerkers do incredible amounts of damage. One shotting uncommon summons with just the thrown attack is entirely reasonable.
But the real point is, you wanted number of turns. It takes you 9 turns to build a single stack with one adamantium city. I can reasonably have a minimum of 3 cities in that time - so I have 3 stacks compared to your 1. 3 stacks means I can cover 3 times the area - or twice the area if I'm worrying about casualties. Covering twice the area means winning twice as fast.
