[PB63 Mjmd] Drunken Sailor

T166 So I spent most of my turn looking at the situation in the south. Kicking myself for moving my scout to the wrong place. Demanding the 3 Cornflakes cities from Ginger. THEN I was doing a final check and noticed the 13 Cairo galleys..... Cairo has had his trireme stack there for a while AND he could have just put the galleys 1 NE if he really wanted to attack with no warning. Plus you know the EMPTY Cornflakes cities he could take if he wanted to expand cheaply . Plus the clear in the lead Ginger with me being one of the obvious players to stop him. Have I mentioned there are free cities to take that would deny them to me and Ginger? Suffice it to say I had already moved my galleys with units in them banghead I could have landed a sizable stack, but alas. I did switch Fish in the Sea to a galley as well as another city. I changed my tech. Other than dragging back one of the players that could stop Ginger Cairo will get nothing AGAIN banghead

I had dropped some cats off in Windy before I saw. Just logged back in to get 4 cats that could move in there out. Edit: he can still hit them because I moved them to the beaver instead of loading 2 into the galley.......

Ginger, you are SOOOO lucky; Cairo saved your butt. Ginger got pretty beat up this turn. I would have finished engineering things going to plan and would have cancelled borders and moved my knights down to go raze his capital on T169. Random other units would have been in charge of taking borders cities. INSTEAD I'lll just leave SD and Ginger to fight it out long term and instead I'll deal with this.......

Now mind you Bing  was supposed to also join in and his stack hasn't moved...... but with Cornflakes at least trading what looks like a descent number of units I probably would have trusted our multiple messages and moved in.

Have I mentioned this Cairo attack is stupid and doomed all at once?

My poor tech. I originally was going to contest lib. I think Bing is going for, but mainly I didn't want Ginger to get. Anyways researched alphabet and paper, but then Ginger declared on Cornflakes. I then switched to engineering so I could hit Ginger if exactly what has happened happened. And now I have 1 turn in engineering and am researching Optics because I'm in a naval based war banghead . Also, I've had to whip a lot more than I would have wanted. I should have dry whipped a galley last turn in Fish, but instead whipped it this turn, but then realized I might need to stuff it with units, so dry whipped a longbow..... OOPS.

Ginger did signal back I can take those Cornflakes cities. Also, I'm pretty focused on just killing Cairo, so I'm cool with Ginger for foreseeable future. I hope SD and Bing realize I can't fight a two front war and you know the invading army is a good excuse to back out of my prior signalling.

The reason this is a stupid is war. If he had been serious about this he should have started in the fog and either gone around windy or through to take Fish in the Sea. There is a reason I should have dry whipped the galleys the turn I noticed (and then ended up dry whipping longbow last turn)...... MAYBE*** Cairo could take and keep the island, but he absolutely needed to capture or raze fish in the sea in the first few turns of the war. Which seems unlikely now. Its not only the best city on the island but is also culturally dominant and my natural reinforcement point.

So I spent way to long on this turn and very little of it was on the actual war.
1) Do I go for 3rd GA soon or wait? It wouldn't be for 13 ish more turns, but I've whipped off a lot and plus hopefully would have even more captured cities to grow. How long do I actually expect the game to go on is probably the relevant question here........ Mainly I want to kill Cairo, so that also probably leans to just fire it off.
2) Oddly related, but what am I teching next. I have a scientist that was part of my plan to beat Ginger to lib, but even with Ginger upgrading a bunch of knights to cuirs in a GA he will still easily beat me now that I've taken a detour / not hit him. Bing/Van aren't going for, so it should be his. If I get a merchant I could***  partially bulb printing press. I'm pretty sure that's is my tech path.... Will keep me at least competitive in GNP and lead to rifles for safety and offense. I could still go education, but again how much longer is this game going? I would love to get universities and oxford up and some of those cities will have no infrastructure to build if I go another path. If I get a prophet a small part of me wants to shrine it up. Ginger shrined his religion and I'm jealous. If I'm willing to be a bit risky and work 5 specialists in capital I can probably use one of my current specialists and still get a GA in a reasonable time frame......
3) Cairo's GNP isn't great. I 'm pretty sure he just got guilds. He has cottaged a lot of random territory. He appears to have made every city into a mixed city. I was vaguely looking at his territory some more. Trying to figure out how much I can take vs maybe SD. I asked Bing/Van to join in, but again the land is so crappy to the  north Cairo only ever settled 1 city there. I guess I would be fine with them getting DoYouFeel as well, but not thrilled with that.

Cairo played a quick turn but sadly has a enough long standing knowledge to know to cut the road on the beaver, so we are in a holding pattern on the island. He is researching towards caravels, but I'll still be first in the water and I have the upgrade advantage.

Last turn I got an engineer so hopefully GA in 12-13 turns. I'll probably stop working engineer next turn to drop that odds. I've been building Paya not only for the GP pts but also for theocracy at end of GA. I finished engineering last turn and on to printing press. Probably research education before GA then save gold. Want to get universities started.

Got 3 offers from Ginger this turn. Rejected silk for gold and then rejected 80g for gold. 2/3 a turn of tech was too good to pass up though so took this one. He literally just took a gold city so he just needs to keep pushing to make it safe, so he is paying for like 5-6 turns? I'm still unsure if I should have done, but I think*** I can finish printing press in 4.

Bing looks to be helping SD out with Jack instead of me with Cairo. I understand, it's the better opportunity and probably more important to free up SD army anyways.

I took 3 Cornflakes cities this turn. For free. You know the ones Cairo could have taken and used his army currently sitting around my island to defend...... Anyways, I messed up and put the vulture by prayer on the hill last turn so Cairo saw (I mean I also killed a scouting chariot with a knight so maybe he would have known).

Anyways, real reason I'm posting is I have NO CLUE how my caravel ended up facing SW this turn. It was created in HealthintheCrew. I SWEAR I moved it to the "wtf" sign last turn as I remember thinking it should have been 1S. This turn its facing SW in a spot I didn't put it with all 3 movement...... Iiam

I believe the answer is in the tech thread:

(May 23rd, 2022, 08:53)Charriu Wrote: Mod Update incoming

It looks like this change of mine:

(September 18th, 2021, 15:03)Charriu Wrote: Bug fixes and UI improvements only, but one change (first) could be considered a gameplay change Close to Home 2.0.6

- Units with bRivalTerritory = 0 and bInvisible = 0 are now teleported on a war declaration. This should only affect caravels, carracks and eastindiaman

is causing problems with caravels being teleported at war declarations in the wrong way. I haven't found a good solution so far and therefore will revert that change. That means the above units will no longer be teleported outside of enemy territory on a war declaration. I well aware that this is one of those hated gameplay changes midgame, but the state that caravels are in right now will cause more problems and anger I presume.

I will provide Ramk with the updated version shortly.

Apparently the "wrong way" that the caravels are being teleported is "(sometimes?) even when there's no earthly reason for them to teleport at all."  It only happens when war is declared by or on the caravel's owner though, as far as I know. Ramk has apparently said he'll have the fix implemented over the weekend.  Did this case cause a problem that needs to be fixed (i.e. by Ramk editing the save on the server)?

It lost one movement, but not a big deal.

I settled a filler city.

Lets start off with the good. Spies culture did not take the 3rd ring and Cairo did not adequately reinforce. 2 of the knights were off a galley so not sure if he wasn't aware or was relying on culture. I'm assuming he had MP units he could have sent to prevent /shrug. I razed a Cairo city and gave Sailor's prayer some breathing room.

1st bad news is that SD got clobbered by Jack. Mind you Bing JUST joined in that war, so why not stay in? AND GAVE A CITY BACK??? I could understand withdrawing, but wtf. Its possible he wants to go contest some Cornflakes cities, but I'm honestly not sure what keeps Ginger from just keep going through SD.

2nd bad news is multiple forms of idiocy. Some old and some new. WAY back when I had 2 workers on that island I thought about chopping those forests to 1 left. I should have 100% and left 1 worker there to chop the forest adjacent to the city.

Cairo unloaded a whole bunch more units on the island. You know how sometimes with large stacks different types of units get separated when looking at it. Well I drove all day today and am very tired. I saw 1 pike in the stack  (at the top of the list) and I had 8 units in range to unload (total of 8 cats), so I did and attacked. Turns out there were 6 pikes in the stack.....  smoke I didn't even figure it out until like the 5th pike lol smoke smoke smoke . SOMEHOW I wasn't extremely punished and my knights actually won 3/6 at horrible odds. I deleted 1 real low health before realizing I should have left to prevent a unit from advancing.

The stack is decently col lateraled and I can do more next turn. Shall see. Part of me wants to evacuate, but that is cowards talk. Would be a lot better if there wasn't a forest for him to step on though......

Got Paya and kicked off a whole bunch of boring tile micro. For funsies I'm planning REAL long and gave all the food to dead horse so it can grow in time to work tons of specialists for a possible 4th GA.

Kind of pointless as Ginger I'm pretty sure is building research during GA and is 1 turning printing press this turn (I'll finish as well). I probably SHOULD research education to force him to fire off lib, but you know the whole at war thing makes me want to go straight rifles..... Plus fish in the sea is my 6th university city. Cairo didn't advance, but since has a medic GG is healing quite fast. The pikes aren't healed this turn, so I'm curious if he will advance. I meanwhile got to pickup 10 more troops from the mainland.

Colm McGuinness has an amazing voice, but he ruins all his single videos by putting his face in them instead of a ship ect. So click the spoiler, click the song, then unclick.

Sean Dagher hasn't done a "just the shanty" version sadly, but here is his shanty of the week which is a bit long for a post https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmchBa4G6hc . Its similar to 'Dead Horse' where its not about what you would think, but rather about sailors hanging from ropes to help haul.

But speaking of hanging men..... Never be afraid to fix your mistakes.

I feel MUCH better. A smarter Mjmd would have had this ready to go last turn in case he didn't advance, but no harm no foul. They were slated for improving the banana, but ah well. I left them there as bait. I'm sad I lost the two I captured over by Sailor's prayer. I'm a little worried about it, but /shrug .

Anyways with the forest chop I'm feeling just good enough to put tech overflow into education. My GPT went up +70gpt with printing press. I'm now making 3.5x what Cairo is.
