Feel vindicated in my choice not to attack earlier:
That's 11 horse archers and he definitely would have hit my stack if I had attacked. Would it have been enough to stop me? Unclear. I moved my horse archers into Voltron and if he attacks in then I should hold. I'll probably lose a few, but he has to attack across a river so my HA's should have odds on each attack. I can also replace faster han him ... except I'm building wealth everywhere.
I think I trigger the GA next turn and start building units again. As soon as I get Iron hooked up, and then I can start pumping out War Elephants again.
A bit miffed at Superdeath for supplying Gavagai those horses...

Isn't it better if he builds HAs rather than praets? Sure it gives him some maneuverability, but you have WEs, HAs of your own, and great vision. You should probably thank SD.

I'd rather fight a mono composition, even if it's praets. But Gav has played and i didn't lose any cities so I think I'll just need to stuff a couple elephants in Voltron and then start my buildup.
Knights are too far out, right now I'm thinking maces and elephants

Going to start the golden age next turn. It's tempting to move in on Gavagai if/when Commodore declares war on him again (lots of whipping and power spike from Comm, but he's still well below Gav & I), but I think I need to stay focused on using the GA to the best of my ability. I'll probably swap to Buddhism since that has spread to 3 of my cities, including the capital & MLP, but no civic swap until I can get Code of Laws in, which is probably 1-2 turns into the GA.
Moai will finish eot140 with the extra boost from the GA. I'm going to sneak in Literature here and try to get the Heroics going and possibly sneak in Great Library or at least a good amount of fail good at the capital. Then we head to Metal Casting > Machinery > Civil Service.
I don't think I'll be chaining golden ages, though I will be trying to get some great person generation. There's too much production I want out of the capital to really push out of there and I don't have enough food anywhere to really push for great people. But I will be able to get at least a great scientist out of The Smurfs, and possibly a great merchant/artist out of somewhere else.

It's all golden now!
Our iron showed up right in the capital BFC and so I have to imagine all iron is in capital BFCs. Oh my goodness, if I had known this before I would have thrown everything at Rome all those turns ago. OH HOW I HATE SYMMETRICAL MAPS ... and edited resources.
In any case, with the capital in unhappiness it was time to switch on the golden age and start fixing our happiness. This turn, I did a bandaid fix by only switching to religion:
Tough to feed the leader by adopting his religion, but at the same time I need happiness now. Code of Laws is done in 2 turns and then we'll do the civic swap into HR, Org Rel, and possibly Caste. It's only possibly Caste because Commodore declared war on Gavagai and we were both in game at the same time. So I signaled him: 1g for 1g. And he accepted.
All my workers are away so I am going to use my settler to complete the road. And I could have done it in a worse city location but here I am probably ruining things by not just accepting planting a worse city for a greater good ... ugh, I already know I should have kept my stuff out of his sight even as the perfectionist part of me is still liking that I'm waiting a turn to move stuff up. In any case, Gavagai can see my stack, and next turn I'm going to move to where the spear is.
What's even more annoying is the only reason that the road got pillaged was because I meant to type on a sign but didn't click right and so accidentally hit the keyboard command for pillaging the road with my sentry horse archer instead of writing my sign message.
Be interesting to see what happens next turn. And how Gavagai goes with his units.
Superdeath is still top GNP. And I think he's even hiding that a bit by running the Espionage slider? He put 6EP into me last turn and the only person with Code of Laws so far is Commodore.
Moai due in 4

I made a very expensive road
Surprised to see no units with the spear, so I moved up the sentry horse archer, and then finally everything else. I fully expect to see this city packed full of praetorians next turn but let's see what happens.

I had my doubts, but this is a hard pass from me:
I count 16 praetorians and 8 horse archers able to hit my stack if I advance, which I'm pretty certain would wipe me out. Sorry Commodore, I am not risking my entire army in this manner. This also tells me Commodore has not moved anything into Roman territory yet, as he is only keeping his horse archers in the south and hardly any of his Praetorians. Since I also don't want to be whipping to replace it in the middle of a golden age, so I reluctantly offered the following:
And no, I did not move to defend He-Man because I really don't care if that city burns. With Roman culture there it's a dead city walking.
Speaking of my golden age, I did civic swap into HR, Org Rel, and Caste, then figured out my strategy for the next 2 great people. The first is going to come out of My Little Pony, due in 6 turns:
My second will come from Smurfs
Smurfs is later in city order, so it will be at 270/300 when the golden age ends, which is close enough.
The capital is not doing any great person generation yet, because I'm going to try for Great Library (fail gold project really) and National Epic there first.
I also started my first buddhist missionary at the capital. MLP is going to be tied down with great person generation so it won't be able to help there yet. And I'm going to finish the War Elephant at Rescue Rangers before that city starts its buddhist missionary. Although if I get peace I'll switch that immediately.

Peace with Gav hopefully means a couple things: - A safe 10 for my golden age to focus on building up.
- Gav rehooks his horse and cancels his deal giving Ivory to Superdeath
- Commodore holds Gavagai by whipping heavily and they stall
- Magic Science doesn't run away with the game because I can give him some attention in 10-20 turns (haha, yeah right. Gav is just going to attack me again when peace is up.)
