It seems the game never actually crashed ... and for some reason it reconnected again. My turn was played already (I literally had my mouse hovering over the red END TURN button when Commodore tried joining). Commodore, on the other hand, was unable to play before the turn rolled so we should probably hold the turn and not move to prevent any possible reload messiness (especially with a war between me and Azza).
I paused the game.

Got an email from sunrise saying he thinks he can get to this tonight. I asked him to reload to after Azza's turn, 350 AD, since I don't think cornflakes/commodore got to save....

It could probably be reloaded to my last login? Unless Commodore's login attempt created a save. If it did then that would be the best place to reload to since I'd actually finished by that time and was just taking a few screenshots.
