Barb city's got a warrior garrison. I moved the axe up, to start pounding on these guys. Hopefully by the time he finishes the city will have grown.
Azza-front looks like this now. I can't believe he seriously thinks we can tolerate it...maybe he thinks we're just that bad at generalship .
Next time, we're doing it right. All units start with XP!
Have a settler en route to the silver, and another due in ~4 turns for the whales spot. Hopefully by then we'll have acquired the barb city, and then we just need two more settlers to finish off our backlines. Then...the only expansion path is with blood

I count 12 Arabian axes, and three Arabian spears, within sight. No other Arabian units visible. Two of those spears are in Nothing, defending a mere two axes. And it turns out that chariots aren't actually obsolete after all. I think that makes the composition of the next wave pretty obvious: mostly chariots, with some mixed in defenders, and probably a few cats because you always can use cats. But mostly chariots. Main debate in my mind is whether we can afford to add stables on top of the barracks. On the one hand, 60 hammers/city is 2 chariots. We've only got seven more turns of peace before we want to be ready. On the other hand, Shock makes mounted units a lot better at piercing spears. Shock/CI HA are almost even odds!
I guess I lean toward just the barracks for now. Stables will come, don't get me wrong, but we do need to be able to handle 15+ Arabian units in seven turns.
Also, took out our first barb from the city. On further inspection, it looks as though they can't fish, so we're going to have to move off the Deer if we want the city to grow.
Shrine incoming...tortoise-style. Still, it's at least definitely got an ETA now.
Next turn we'll offer open borders to the world. And start researching...probably Poly/Monotheism. Although I'm definitely tempted to try for Machinery soon, crossbows would be godly against what Azza's shown.
In the long run, the main debate is Cuirs vs. Knights. Or rather - Conquistadors vs. Knights. No question that Conqs are much better...but the path to Knights includes Crossbows, Longbows, and is close to Pikes and Citadels and Maces (doesn't require Engineering or Civil Service IIRC, but they're each a 1-tech branch). The path to Conqs is a whole bunch of other techs - music, nationalism, drama; they have their uses, but for the most part those uses aren't war. So, how much of a gap are we willing to tolerate before our next miltech upgrade?

Been playing, just ran out of time to report. This five-games stuff is for the birds.
Last turn we got a quasi-unfair event. It's called Baby Boom - we got 10 bonus food in every city. Basically five population for free. It still won't catch us up to the leaders, but it ought to be a nice boost against Azza. Only limitation here is that we're still up against the happy cap, but I'm sure it'll solve more problems than it causes.
We've settled the silver city; got a settler in queue for the whales city, and the other backlines cities are getting profitable. The barb city's down to a single warrior, but it hasn't grown yet, so I'm going to hold off capturing it for now.
Five more turns of guaranteed peace, after which I'm really not sure what'll happen. Azza's Power has been flattish, so I kinda think he's not interested in attacking this time. Just in blocking us from the rest of the continent and putting cultural pressure on. We won't be ready to object in five turns, but I don't expect to stay peaceful very long.
We're researching Monarchy, and will proceed on to Feudalism. Longbows seem like they'll make a significant difference. And so will additional happiness sources!

We popped a gold!
Just need to get a worker to it to put a road on. Our happy cap is nearly about to skyrocket, between the gold, silver, and hereditary rule. And that's a strong argument for going for Metal Casting, too.
err, actually, I think we popped the gold last turn, and I just didn't notice. I blame Azza for that

The capital . The mine between it and Yellow. Basically, Bureaucracy is going to rock.
But of course all the workers were on the periphery of the empire, so it'll be a couple-few turns yet before it's hooked. Not much point doing something like delaying the Silver to get the Gold.
I dunno. Those last two events feel like a desparate GM . The game feels my attention slipping, so...c'mon, Mardoc, you haven't even beat the first boss yet! Here, have a magic sword. And a horse. And...Bonus population and the happiness for it are both really good things. And in a couple turns we ought to be at 12 cities to Azza's 8. And I'm getting stretched thin regardless .
It's not that any of the games are un-fun, just that I'm in too many. Seems like the only way out is through. And to be fair, one of my games is definitely in end game. So in a couple weeks I expect to be down to four. Hopefully that happens before I get myself burned out.

Well, it looks like my MSDN Subscription is finally on its way, which means I have civ on Windows again, which means I can take primary control over for a while to let you have a break.

That would be nice. I don't expect to need much of a break; a week or two would let me at least get EitB31 to the next teammate. I don't think the other games are that close to done, but I could be surprised. But it's a bad sign when I don't even notice a gold pop...

Well we're in a peaceful situation at the moment, so it shouldn't be horrid. Have you at least been checking Azza's power to make sure he isn't building up a lot more? That'd be all I would be worried about missing right now.

Not really. I've been building military in most cities and trying to recover from the whip spree - there's not really much he could do that would change that.
OTOH, it's summer. Which means that PB17 is stalled, and this one's moving slow, and PBEM XXXV has also hit a bump. So I appear to be getting my break anyway . Another day or two of this and I'll be in good shape again, I think.
