Hmmm.... I logged back in because I realized I forgot to switch my EPs from suttree to barteq and I realized we are just 4 turns from completing the GLH now. However, writing is 4 turns away as well... do I delay the finish date of the GLH by a turn to open up borders a turn early? What do you guys think?

Yeah, I think that's the best bet. Then you at least get 9 turns of trade routes before they can close borders. I don't think 1 turn is going to cost us the GLH, so I think it's a good idea.
GLH is +1 trade route per city instead of +2. If PB20 is anything to go by, OB isn't an issue for the GLH builder. I wouldn't risk the wonder by delaying it a turn.
I was leaning towards that too; even if I delay it a turn, unless I managed to offer the OB before both of them log in, the offer will effectively be after the GLH is built anyways. And, while playing the turn won't be a problem this weekend, I don't think I have enough free time to fully game the counter like that.
Sorry to always go against you, Grimace. =/ Parkin, hope you are feeling better!
Alt-click cancels fine anyhow.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Don't fret...I said in the beginning I am hardly an expert at this game.
![]() That being said, can you have an active trade route with a civ you don't have open borders with? I didn't think you could, but to be honest I've never really paid close attention.
We can have a trade connection (meaning we're able to trade resources), but an actual trade route that gives us commerce in our cities requires open borders.
Took a big risk this turn... spent an upgrade on our wounded (2.9/4) 6 xp chariot, and used him to attack a barb warrior at 97.6% odds (as opposed to 99.1% with the healthy 2xp chariot
![]() ![]() We are now an Industrious civ that is HE-enabled. ![]() In the west, we have the MB finally ready to grow after spending 2 turns in Delay Growth to fill the granary. It's building a 2T Warrior for Lusitania's permanent garrison, to free the chariot, and then will work on another worker. Might try to sneak a Monument in there too, whipping from 3->2 when the city is about to grow to 4, then letting the overflow go into a worker, then 1-pop whipping that too. The Lusitania, on the other hand, is ready to hit size 6. I'm still thinking about logging back in and double-whipping the 22/60 Trading Post; the city would regrow back to size 5 next turn, overflow considerable into the settler, grow back within 2 turns, and give +1 food during the settler build. The more I think about it, the more I think we should do this. ![]() The exploration situation: ![]() I drew in where I hope our borders will end up. Maybe a bit optimistic? To this end, I'd like to settle the fish/wheat/sheep spot to the southwest first, to seal the border with Barteq; the area around the Stone, in the middle there, is pretty devoid of food and so securing this spot should cool his northern ambitions. To the northeast, we want the Marble, but that may be difficult to get, competing with Imperialistic suttree. So, I think we should get the copper next (the site can help work a few cottages for the capital, so its not a complete wash), then the wheat fish, then the Marble for city #8. (or #9, if we take the barb city by then). After that, I think we start on the islands. Ideally, with the GLH, we'd get an island city out sooner, but I really want that Marble!! ![]()
Somehow I miscounted; 1 turn for writing, 2 turns for GLH:
![]() Growing Lusitania a bit; 3 more turns until we hit size 6. The WB will be for the new city to the south. ![]() |
