Civilization 7 is in development

That's my understanding as well from other streams. I guess the idea is that you can customise your leader by giving them am extra trait from another leader? But that trait has to be unlocked through playing (my brain attuned to the current state of gaming industry fully expects a DLC which unlocks all mementos)

I also wonder if mementos will be usable in MP, and if you will be required to grind for mementos (or buy the aforementioned DLC) to avoid being at disadvantage in MP

I found the list of all mementos here - https://gamerant.com/civilization-vii-ci...ntos-list/ - some of them seem quite powerful (extra movement, extra policy slots)

I had the Imago Mundi memento (boosts scouts, and curiosities are as strong as in Endless Legend, there's one that can gift you a horseman, literally the strongest non-unique unit in the first Age...) and it is really strong, but it was the only one that really stood out to me. Most of what I unlocked gives you an attribute point.Good but not mindblowing.

Also I'm level 15 of 30 (I think?) with just two games. So it isn't that hard to have every one before an MP match, and IIRC you can disable them, also you can just houserule to play without them, or ban the broken ones.

You can disable mementos, they're strictly optional.

Forget MP, this system is unfair towards AIs in single player. And yes, it bothers me greatly.
More seriously, the problem is not the system per se but rather that it shows what kind of players they see as their target audience. And with such target audience in mind no decent game is possible.

51% Steam rating. lol Not buying this game. Keep in mind that the rating is inflated because people who pay for Early Access tend to be more excited about the game. The rating is probably going to be round 45% in the end.

I am glad to hear the mementos can be disabled or not used. I don't mind them existing; they add some flavor for single player for those who want them. It just seems like an odd thing to include in a 4X game.

I know it is very early yet, but what are people's impressions of the AI? How good a job does it do? How much variation is there from lower difficulty levels to higher ones? Any idea how big the AI bonuses are for higher difficulty?

Game is a train wreck. The more I hear from proper reviews, the more I am put off. Besides all the bugs and UI irks, it's the game concepts and the AI's inability to cope with it, that puts the final nail in the coffin for me.
I think, Soren Johnson was the last guy in charge of Civ, who knew how to design a game that feels like a true 'test of time' for your civilization and pose a real challenge. If only someone would develop an update for Civ4 with graphics as clear as Civ3. One can only dream

It's... awful, but somehow still better than civ 6. lol This AI can actually take cities. They get inflated yields and a combat strenght buff, but they seem entirely braindead in actually using them. Like they're trying to pour a gallon through one of those nifty siphons you use to drizzle olive oil. It's like the Total War AI: their statline and armies look scary, but when you actually push into them they crumple like a paper tiger. Haven't touched Diety yet (I'm moving up in difficulty as I complete games. Will probably conquer Immortal today unless the AI actually does something come Modern Era, so far I'm not impressed. shakehead Doing a cultural focused game and I'm triple the next biggest rival, double science yikes even though I've barely built any universities...), but from some LP's I've seen it doesn't seem much better there.

Thanks for the info, Japper007. That is disappointing, but not unexpected after the last couple iterations of Civ. frown

Any thoughts on the independent powers/city state stuff? Better than in prior civ games, about the same, or worse?
