[SPOILER] Kyan + thestick. Is that the best you can do?

Just catchibng up now, but notice you are working a lot of coast over cottages (especially at Nix). Why?

Also why didn't you settle on th forest 1W of Pallas? That would leave the hill open for working, giving better long-term production (once you leave the whip).

How do your city count compare to others? are you satisfied with your claims into the continents interior?

I'm getting paranoid over Mackcousin's power spike.

Mackousin adopted Theocracy (worrying) and Caste System (reassuring). Just need a few more turns for Feudalism and the first Longbows to come off the line, come on...

Anyway, the cities:

I don't have an elaborate plan for the Parthenon, besides 'chop and work Mines and pray.'

I'll whip the Courthouse next turn. The Courthouse costs 3 pop, and I don't want to whip away the 3 commerce coast.

My southern hammer pump, just regrowing and cranking out Missionaries/military. Great Engineer is in 12 turns.

Same story as Haumea, I'll whip the Courthouse next turn.

Exhibit A of overwhipping. I have tons of cottages to grow onto, but I didn't grow onto them.

Exhibit B of overwhipping. Axeman is due to said paranoia.

Exhibit A of my 'food first' policy. I'm not sure if working the Mines to get the Moai done faster would be a better play. Again, I'm waiting for another growth before whipping a Courthouse.

On second thought, I should be working the Mines to get Moai out to get some ships to settle the northern islands. I'll get right to that.

The first of my fishing villages, this city took forever to develop with no forests to chop. But now that the rock bottom basic infrastructure is in place, I can finally start fishing.

Another fishing village like Hydra, except this one has more food and had chopable forests, leading to a higher level of development.

The only jungle city I have, Hi'iaka will probably spend its days growing cottages. Instead of National Epic, I'll probably end up whipping soldiers out of here to keep my border with Mackousin locked down.

The first of my island cities. Next turn I'll whip the Granary, then start growing to Size 4 for the Lighthouse.

Same as Dysnomia. Funny how the trade route income is making these cities pay for themselves almost immediately. Making two continents sure made this game different, I like that.

@Q, I'm working coast over blank cottages because I built the Colossus. Getting 3 commerce tiles right now instead of 18 turns later (I think it's 18 turns) seems worthwhile. Growth order is Riverside, then Coast, then Blank.

As for Pallas, I really wanted to chop that Forest, letting me whip the Granary at Size 2 instead of 4. In retrospect, 1E of the Forest to grab the Crabs might have been worthwhile.

As for city counts, Mackousin and Nakor have 11, I have 12, TheMusicMan has 13, and Shoot and Sian have 14. I'm barely beating my continent, but losing to the far continent.

I'm unsatisfied with my claims to the center. I missed out on Gems, Dyes, Marble, and Stone! I played this game by heading to the coastal food, though, so I can't really complain.

Demographics:

Breakeven is around 55%. The power of the Colossus is keeping me competitive in GNP, which I'm hoping will give me enough snowballing power to compensate for when the Colossus expires. The fishing-heavy focus is keeping me competitive in Crop Yield, too. My lack of claims to the central jungles is reflected in low Land Area.

Can anyone tell me why I'm losing so much money on trade income?!?

It'd be really interesting to compare my water-heavy approach to this game with others, except that probably won't happen since no one's updating. Frown.

Just realized I should be farming over a lot of these blank Cottages/Villages near Makemake, Ceres, Charon, and Hydra. smoke

We're rolling again, but nothing of note is happening. I whipped Courthouses in Nix and Haumea, and the Moai statues comes in in 4 turns. Cothon construction is starting. ad hoc build the Parthenon, oh well. Feudalism came in, now it's time for... Liberalism beeline?

ad hoc's power is spiking:

Eep! I queued up Construction and am going to hit Machinery before going to Paper/Education/Liberalism.

My first Cothon came online, and it's better than I ever imagined:

From two 3 commerce routes to 3 five commerce routes. Still considering Temple of Artemis to power up my trade routes even more.

ad hoc's power is still increasing. He has 1 Maceman 4 Catapults in his border city, worrying. Machinery came in to start cranking Macemen, and Pluto's working on Longbows:

Without the Heroic Epic, it's the best I can do. And I should probably build a Barracks...

The Moai statues finally completed:

TheMusicMan and I are fighting for second in Crop Yield, with me barely edging him out.

Cranking longbows at nix. Ad hocs power still increasing. Started farming at ceres and charon. Whipped courthouse at namaka, saved 6 gpt. Musicman founded islam. Saving money for paper education.

I decided to research Horseback Riding and am going to research Guilds, as military is definitely more important than economy right now. I'm going to start whipping units in my border cities.

ad hoc has two stacks: one of 3 Maces 3 Catapults, and one of 1 Mace and 5 Catapults.

In other news, I'm pretty sure I've reached third place, since I've been second in Crop Yield and third in GNP for a while.

ad hoc's power is still spiking. He has 3 Maces 5 Catapults (!!!) massed outside of Hi'iaka. I chopped Pluto's last forest into a Maceman and whipped a Maceman out of Charon (northern border city). I'll whip more units out of Hi'iaka as soon as the whip anger wears off. I'm third in Power, but it's about 300K to ad hoc's 470K.

Guilds comes in in 2 turns, after which I will whip some Knights and feel secure again.

Quickly, my Great Engineer and Theology game in EOT, and I'm going to whack down the AP in Pluto. Buddhist Temples are starting to go up everywhere. Pluto's deep in unhealthiness, so I'm whipping a Grocer. Obviously, I'm heading for Paper to open the way for Education and to grab Sankore.
