I'll look at it further when I have time. But my point is if we can get a tech in 2 but need to wait to get it in 3 by incorporating hardline binary research rules, I'll go with 2 turns every time.
I reviewed the amount of accumulated research next turn at every percentage and was skeptical about getting Pottery in 2 turns if we went at 0% or even 10%. That's why I had it at 50% but I guess I'll see what happens if you changed it. I just don't want to have to do a lot of reactionary micro to make up for a miscalculation, which may the case here if we approach this with no nuance.

Well I don't think we'll get many techs in 2t, most of the time it will take longer than that and we should definitely do binary until we're just ~2t away. And then sometimes finishing the tech 1t earlier will be worth it (do we want to start a granary next turn BTW ?) and sometimes it really has no effect (like if we don't want to start the granary next turn) in which case we should be doing the long term thing and take the extra beakers. It's not that big of a deal but it's still a 5% rise in our gold+beakers output, which is respectable.

I was actually referring to the two turns left in Pottery; sorry for not being clear on that. I am all for reviewing the calculations at the beginning of each tech going forward, aka finding out the research time at 0gpt and seeing how we can improve either that or the amount of total beakers. Getting Gold and Gems online will certainly make such conversations much easier going forward.
I am also fine with switching to a Granary in Oswego this turn, and had actually considered doing that. We should be able to chop out a Granary there after we connect the Gold and Pigs (maybe sooner) if we want. I'd like to queue one up in Duquesne soon since that city has only the one food resource.
What did you have the new FW do?

SCANDAL??
Probably not, but I still want to go over a decision I made this turn to see what Adrien and the lurkers think of it. I'll give you the play by play:
1. In response to Adrien's invite in the turn summary, I had decided to log in to change the Settler in Salmon Falls as I did not think it was time for another Settler just yet. I was intending to change to an Axeman due to encountering Joey's Warrior last turn.
2. Upon reviewing the city that is exactly what I did, with the intention of whipping it out next turn to start protecting our perimeter. This would also leave good overflow into the Granary.
3. After that, I reviewed the rest of the map and found that Joey had an Impi just south of our natural mountain border, west of his third city. My first thought was that I found it strange that Adrien didn't mention it. I ended the turn.
4. I just looked at CivStats to see that Joey actually played after us this turn so apparently Adrien never saw the Impi in place. I had been used to us being second in the turn order.
So, I am now concerned that my queue change to Axeman will be seen as a reactionary move to the Impi since Adrien technically finished the turn.
If you think a penalty is in order, I can go change the queue back if I can do so before Gavagai ends this turn. If the turn rolls I will agree to not whip the Axeman next turn and switch to Granary for x amount of turns decided by whoever wants to weigh in.
Hopefully, I am making a big deal over nothing since no one is at war but I just want to be sure on this. Thanks!

I had the FW road for 1t with the intention of mining the hill this turn. I have no opinion on the axe thing but lurker opinion is welcome

I suppose the lack of outraged lurkers means we can go on. Any news this turn ?

Yes, I had to run to work right after I played, and have had 3 clients since. T-minus 60 hours on this situation btw.
Rival Report
Elkad - new city is built on Wines on the other side of our mountain border. So much for trolling that city from him
Joey - Fortified his Impi on a forested hill so I think we will be okay for the short term. We'll just want to monitor that situation closely. I whipped the Axe anyway.
Gavagai - offered an map trade this turn so he has Writing. I declined for now so we can discuss it.
I am always pretty guarded with my map an I am not sure what useful intel we will get from it. Meanwhile he gets a view on all available city sites he can challenge us for up our western coast. But a map trade could foster goodwill too . What do you think?
Borsche - has an Axe 2SE from our healing Scout down there. If he directly approaches us, we should get out of Dodge at 0.9/1.

Domestic Report
Salmon Falls
- Not sure what the note meant at the time, I queued the FW to apparently complete the road this turn. Sorry about that but we can start mining next turn.
- Whipped the Axe and should get about 20 toward a Granary next turn. I am all for whipping the Granary at +30 since we will have extra unused happies from new luxuries and will still be working on the new mine.
Duquesne
- Growth in 2, Axe in 2. Thinking Granary after that here too.
- Still at pop 2 so moved from Furs to newly-exhumed Gems for extra commerce.
Oswego
- switched from Warrior to Granary. We may be able to chop some towards it before we get to the Pigs.
- switched from food tile to unfunished Gold tile (2h-2c)
Science
I haz incorporated Binary Research! Moved slider down to 0%. With the commerce changes I made, we are at +19gpt now.
Let me know about the map trade.

I'm usually rather lax on world map trades, but here I'm not sure it's to our benefits. We've scouted him and not the other way around, so we'd be giving away a lot of info. Maybe in a turn or two when he has already had his first round of exchanges ?
I just meant that I had put one turn into a road, or else we'd have lost a worker turn going directly to the hill. Well at least we have a road now. All this sounds good, especially if we're getting the mine a turn later. Right now we have 3 improved tiles worth working, so while we wait for the mine we could as well be at size 3.
Are you sure Oswego is better off working the gold ? I have mixed feelings about this, food is key in the early cities usually. Actually it's also key in the later cities, but you usually have workers around to prepare the field so it's less of an issue.
