DIE ROLL SUCCESS! Also, Gavagai is still deciding which one of us to utterly ruin.

Those four catapults aren't scary of course, but I know there's a lot more out there...so brave First Warrior Ever Built is once more on the case. Gavagai is being clever with his deployments, but I'm not an idiot. Hi there dude.

Twenty horse archers and twenty war chariots are a hell of a lot. I scuppered back toward Spread Eagle, where fifteen praetorians/spears behind walls and on a hill can gut that whole mass. Pindicator is dancing backwards too, Plako is getting a ton gifted to himself here. Hey, it's all good.

...and this is why it's all good. World is open now. Let's go.

TBS isn't messing around with his colony efforts. He's got the northwest coast sewn up now, and he's going south fast. I need to claim Virgin and what's beyond STAT, gang. Here, have a stitch:
The first four settlers are going to be, in order:
-Butts, with improvement going gold, incense, copper. Colony just works those.
-Sugar Tit, improvement going banana, sugar, silk. Build big population, whip hard.
-Ballplay, improvement going fort (canal), furs, silk, then farms/mines. Go high on mines.
-Virgin, improvement going floodplain farm, sheep, gold. This is a mining colony and PANAMA.
I intend to settle one city per turn for at least the next ten turns. The golden age incoming in 10 will be allowing Feudal Monarchs with the chief aim of BANKS and MERCHANTS at the end. Still making all the praetorians, and I'm going to keep pumping them this side of rifles.

Congrats on the dice roll, and good luck on the high seas smile

So when do you hit bankruptcy? Or are you to a tech point where new cities are net positive from day 1?

Edit:

Also, what do you do if he just bypasses Eagle?

Net positive from day 1 with my trade routes, here.

...and I dunno  hit his stack with trebuchets and kill all the chaff?

I guess I should also show a picture of my boring dull Old World empire. I'm now in the Renaissance era, researching Mysticism. As you do.

Mapmakers, if I have to suffer on a toroid...this makes up for a whole hell of a lot. NICE. JOB. GUYS.

Oh, yeah, I was wondering: what's your rating on the 'naturalness' of the map? Any aesthetic touches that particularly please or disappoint you?

Well that's interesting. I met Old Harry in Mackoti Land, and he's met TBS already. I think I've found another Astronomy holder...the score jump for Persia the turn I bulbed says that TBS has yet another rival in the gold rush. Whee!

I actually love the aesthetics of a lot of the map; it's unnaturally lush, but less so that some of the nutty maps I've seen. The general shape of it, a sideways S, works okay but I think it makes for imbalance on the ends (B4ndit formerly and...William LP? Old Harry?). The toroidal nature might be limited to just a little bit of cold water. I love having Astronomy land that worth something, and worth a lot at that...I think the four of us first to Astronomy (TBS, me, Old Harry, Mackoti) are going to be able to take it all. Most natural-looking lands in the world are here.

I'm slow off the gate, but the first golden age comes in 10t.

Isn't this cause and effect?

So have there been enough turns for you to have an Astro-city yet?

Well, not 100%. I wasn't ready techwise due to the beeline, but a Golden Age would have let me tech Astro in about the same timeframe. The Phi-boys have landed both.

Butts was settled this turn (net gold change 0). Three more get down in two more turns, then Panama the turn after, then onward to claim the middle of the continent.

I know you lot come for the pictures.

It's been one turn since the above update. Clock games led to a real cluster, apparently. But now Donovan is at war with Joey and Mackoti is at war with eating Rusten, so there definitely won't be any more delays now.

There was a Creative change I had missed, apparently. Hey check it out, guys:

It makes an Observatory almost as good as a library is for non-creatives, so that's fun. I'm going to build a whopping four or five, rather than the traditional one or two. Eng101
