Maybe it should be a target, then?

Turn 141

Still haven't looked at those cultural cities. I'll get around to it. But right now there's a war about to be kicked off.

Cornflakes made a cute play on his turn, saw it wasn't going to work, and immediately sued for peace.

Sadly TBS and him getting enforced peace does give TBS some extra breathing room. But it will be pretty clear what is going on when TBS opens the next turn up.

I swapped into Nationalism and started drafting. We'll be able to draft every city and then switch back for 5 turns. Probably aim to keep this alternating civics up for the rest of the game.

Old Harry will come east from ninjabo:

And I will come west from Ralphie:

Built culture at both cities and we should get control of the plains hill next turn. Although I'm not sure if it's better to actually move everything up against the city if that is the case: if I'm going to count on TBS using up his siege and then trying to counterattack the knight stack, it's probably more in my interest to have those units come out into the open. Yes, I should have held back and then built culture NEXT turn to allow me to hit his knight stack. Ah, dammit.

Next turn: fireworks

Will I have an army next turn?

Oh dear, I forgot to promote my knights Doh

Old Harry was clearly more prepared, and he took 2 cities off TBS and used his Privateers to get naval dominance quickly. I wanted to show his advance but I don't have a unit in the area. That should be fixed within a few turns. But also, the knights I could see from TBS in the area have moved - either back or forward - and so all I know is there is nothing within range of threatening Flex Falcon in my north.

On our front, TBS had offered peace (which was declined) and then pulled everything back.

If he is retreating to give more units against Old Harry then I am for that. I took the now-empty city and then moved my stack so that it was just out of range of his knights and catapults, but also so that I could threaten the next city north along the coast.

I imagine TBS is going to try and get one of us to sign peace and then focus the other. If he does not offer stiff resistance then I don't plan on pushing for him. If I felt I had the ability, I would shift everything south and go after Cornflakes. But it seems too early to call peace quite yet. I want OH to get a little more committed, and I'd really like to pick up this Gav core. I think we might see TBS pull farther back next turn - or at least there's a chance of that, and so if he is going to pull back then I don't want to needlessly throw away units.

I've taken the lead in GNP and Food in demos. And at end of turn I tied TBS in score. Need to be careful that I'm not the next dogpile.

I hear a prisoner talking about defection, seems like. Is there not a possible chance here of escaping from prison (a game with TBS in it) entirely?

Turn 144

Well I don't think there will be any defects ... yet. TBS revolted to Environmentalism and Representation at the end of his Golden Age and now has about 50% more GDP than second place (me). I have grabbed some leads in Crop Yield and MFG, but if TBS can get to Rifling before we can do damage then we might be too late. I think that will keep us together for a bit longer.

TBS continued pulling all his stuff west towards Old Harry, and I am still content to let him.

I burned Susa as i don't want to go this way and I don't want OH to establish a beachfront here. My goal is to get all of the ex-Gav core for myself.

He does have his slow mover-stack set up in a way to defend it all. But I have double the numbers here so I decided to just move up into it. If he wants to pull back I'll be content to grab the old Gav cities and possibly peace out at that point. If he stands pat then we're going to have to fight and I feel confident in my numbers telling in the end.

Here's the big picture of what's going on out west.

His knights are all racing towards Old Harry, and I'm racing to get a sentry chariot on that front. Silly me for not doing so before. But you can see from the tech tree that TBS is going for Music, which means he wants to get Military Tradition next for Privateers (when did those get moved here?) and Cuirassiers. Which means that needs to be my next stop as well.

Cornflakes is very lucky, he's so weak but we're all busy with bigger fish. I wonder if there's a way I could peacefully grab all of Gav lands and then just send about 120 units into Cornflakes on multiple fronts.

Turn 145

I advanced again after a lot of thought.

Old Harry has retreated his initial push back to his own lands and I'm not quite sure what is sitting in his captured city from TBS. However, I did not think that Old Harry would stab me in the back in this as he has also now landed a force to try and pick off some TBS cities from Old Gavagai. In addition, TBS still has 50% more GNP than 2nd place (me) when I'm running 100% science.

Finally, he still doesn't have as many units as I do. Although after the siege goes in he will have something like 40 hitters, my stack is over 80. Although all those catapults probably get flanked away.

I do not necessarily want to throw this stack away, however. I think if TBS offers peace again next turn I am likely to accept, especially if Old Harry continues to tepidly stick his toe into the water and ponder whether or not he really wants to get wet.

I really taking a risk here, but being able to see how all his troops are dispositioned really makes me think this is a good time to go for it:

The trouble is more in the long-term. Am I setting up enemies on all sides and provoking a future dogpile? Old Harry is pragmatic; as long as he thinks TBS is a bigger threat than myself then he'll stay an ally with me. Cornflakes is also very weak, so perhaps I should be looking more at a full elimination. But I'm not trying to push for Cornflakes to be removed yet, just to get a more secure position in Old Gavagai.

It's hard to say what is correct here. If Old Harry and TBS are in a long, protracted war, then I should push farther into Cornflakes. But I feel like Old Harry will try to play defensively and hold what he has instead of pushing more into TBS now. He has not had the stomach for 1-on-1 with TBS in the past and seeing his troops still within his own lands I dont' think he's going to push forward any more than he has. The question is whether TBS will let him have peace now that he's pushed TBS on 2 fronts.

We'll see if Cornflakes even takes this peace. If not then I put my stuff in position to hit his catapult/knight stack next turn - a stack which is too far back to save his city here. Honestly if I didn't fear an attack in the north from Old Harry or TBS then I could put all into Cornflakes and probably eliminate him.

Demos are looking great with TBS knocked down, and now that I am in Rep and have built the Sistine

I fear that I am not truly doing that well in research because I have so much culture generation. However, I also feel like I have to research Mil Trad next. Leaving the seas uncontested in this map seems like a bad, bad idea. After Mil Trad it will be time to debate whether to go for Chemistry (Environmentalism), Printing Press, or Education. All have good economic merits.
